Wow not been movies for years! Think now with big TV`s and HD etc it doesn`t have the appeal like it used too?

People coughing and always the one or two who don't really want to watch the film and talk alway through ha-ha!

I will stick to my HD TV and Blu-ray with beer in one hand and vape device of choice in other :D + I can pause it whenever I want :)

Just out of interest last really good film I can remember at cinema was John Carpenters "The Thing" so that shows how long ago ha-ha! Have been since then but that the one that sticks in my mind as glad I saw it at cinema!

District 9 looks good, have you seen any reviews?

There is already oscar talk. lol.

I have a had tv and blu-ray player and love em, but to me, there is nothing like the experience of going to the movies. Big screen, film grain, buzz of the crowd, the smell, etc.

I love it.

All the time. I have a home theater that's awesome, but that doesn't stop me from going to the theater to enjoy.

Good to help stimulate the economy also ya know....
True, but have there really been quality movies?

I agree, same quote as above....

I suppose I have not been to the movies also because I have 3 small children and the babysitter moved...lol, but I have also noticed the quality of what is being put out has decreased, special effects are better, but you need a story as well...I think the last movie I really enjoyed in the theater was Lord of the rings...flat screens, cable and good speakers have also helped the "movie experience" at home...I also do not mind the "pause and pee" feature of a movie at home...lol

Quality movies? Ha!

Yes, there are some here and there. Most IMO don't make it to the big screen or only the small art house theaters. Last great theater movie I saw, Children of Men. That was worth seeing in a theater.

One of my co-workers raved about Paul Blart-Mall Cop that he had seen in a theater. I told him that he is the reason that crap like that is still made.

I am a big (har har) movie lover. I go to the theater at least twice a month if not more when I can. Currently, I want to see District 9. Trying to find the cash to go see it.
Just went and saw district 9 this weekend! It was awesome! I loved that movie, can watch it again and again! My daughter can download new movies off the internet to my big screen T.V.,I found that very interesting, like in never going to the movies again or renting? Might be illeagal,I don't know. But I was amazed, she put district 9 on my T.V. and I watched it again.

I do, but only if it's something I really want to see. Actually, the last year or so I've gone to a lot more movies than I have in the past - I'm not sure why - just more I've been interested in seeing I guess. Below are my mini-reviews of films I saw recently (last 6 months or so) in theaters. My picks of the year as far as best movies so far would be WATCHMEN and District 9, with WATCHMEN ever so slightly edging out District 9, but barely.

District 9 - PHENOMENAL! Finally, intelligent science fiction done right, and something ORIGINAL. I recommend for anyone who enjoys witty science fiction go see this one. (Also, it's a much smaller movie than the current blockbusters with a lot of new people involved from an acting and producing perspective, so supporting it is pretty important - I for one want to see more movies like this in the future). And they didn't give too much away going in - I had no idea of what to expect from this movie, and that was definitely part of the experience. (Mooby, find a way to go see this one! lol).

Transformers 2 - Thanks for completely stomping on my childhood, Michael Bay. I thought it was horrible. Slow plot, absolutely pointless dialogue, forced humor (smart humor is fine, but this was dumb humor forced into just about every human scene), and essentially just CGI/Violence Porn. It's just...action...and action...and action...interspersed by dumb humor that almost makes you wish the characters were killed off just so they'd shut up. =oP I actually thought the first Tranformers was okay (not great, but not completely terrible either) - I felt this one was a disaster EXCEPT for the last 15 minutes or so, which isn't enough to redeem the movie. Whatever happened to smart storytelling in Blockbusters like this? This feels like the story was just filler between action scenes and ridiculous jokes for what should be a (mostly) serious movie with a "big" feel to it.

Terminator Salvation - I love the first two Terminator movies, and I frankly wasn't expecting this one to live up to them going in. I found it surprisingly decent. Competent, a fun ride, but in the end, forgettable compared to the originals. Still, it could have been a lot worse, and I enjoyed myself.

Star Trek - Great reboot by a pretty brilliant guy. I quite loved this one, though I'm not sure as much as some of my friends. Very enjoyable ride, though, and I'm sure I'll want to see it again when it's out on DVD or the movie channels.

WATCHMEN - This movie blew my mind! Loved it. Another example of intelligent writing. Probably my favorite of the year so far! Fantastically dark and thought provoking. I had never read the comics, so was new to the whole universe going in, and it definitely got my attention.

The White Ribbon By Michael Haneke looks good.
Anything by Michael Haneke is good though.

Anyone see Funny Games? The original, not the remake.
I just saw it, but not in a theater. The White Ribbon hasn't
been released on DVD yet as far as I know, so when I see it at my
local indie theater, I'm there.

Michael Haneke is a terrific director if you
haven't found him yet.

Okay,
Father Luke

... buzz of the crowd ...

If it were ONLY a "buzz":
... talking
... cell phones
... texting
... straw-slurping
... rustling candy wrappers
... popcorn munching
... ice chewing
... seat kicking
... aisle-running demon spawn (ie: kids)
... people getting up and down
... playing with the seat bottoms

The LAST time I went to a movie was to see "Panic Room" at a morning
matinee. I thought it would be my best bet to avoid disruptions. It was
me and TWO other people... a couple. Know where they sat?... in the
two seats DIRECTLY in front of me.

There will be a flick coming out next year ("Neon Angels") that I really
would like to see at a theatre (I am a HUGE fan of "The Runaways" from
the 70s). I might try my luck again... but am actually dreading (already)
the thought of walking into a cinema.

Finally, someone else who appreciated Children of Men. I thought it was just me  I genuinely liked that movie.

Start sending me hate mail though.......I didn't care for watchmen :nah:
I spend two and a half hours of my life listening to a story about who everyone is, and then suddenly This guy with a blue penis ( and no balls, apparently when you reassimilate yourself you just can't get back that last detail that is your balls). shows up to save the day, and then he doesn't.

Thank goodness! This movie had my attention at the beginning with the explosion outside the coffee house. WOW. Wow, wow, wow. The realism as they tried to get to the boat through the detainment camp. I was crying as they carried the baby though the squatters building and everyone, even the soldiers, stopped and started. Then the second they were out the door... bang! Warfare started up again.

This was a 9 1/2 out of 10 star movie for me. Nearly perfect. Even Michael Caine as the hippie and his wife and the euthanasia drug. So sad and bleak. One of the few DVDs I actually bought.
