I have some concern over the flavorings, although not an overwhelming concern.

I DIY the majority of my own juice and keep my flavoring percent at 10% or less in the majority of my mixes. I prefer to use clear or very light colored flavorings and most often avoid the darker flavorings or those with artificial coloring most of the time in both the juices I DIY and those that I purchase. For me, moderation is the key. I have no problem occasionally vaping darker juices or those mixes with much higher flavoring percentages then I normally use. I just don't use them as my regular all day vapes. :)

Consider for a moment the popularity of...

Incense
(many scents and varieties)

Scented Candles/Oils/Waxes
(just about as many scents as we have flavors and likely some of the same stuff going into them)

Air Fresheners
(Same as scented candles and some (many?) with the additives that deaden your sense of smell to make odors 'go away'...)

Admittedly, vaping is more direct exposure, but I know people with scented candles and incense burning all the time, often in multiples and several rooms at once.

This said, I vape quite a lot of flavorless. Probably 60%-70% of the time. But I do it because it makes the flavors that I vape for a change or treat, that much 'brighter' on my palette.

I care about stuff going into my lungs. However, I now have copd, and stilled smoked. Switched to e-cigs 2 months ago, but I still have to breathe bus exhaust, other’s cooking smoke, barbeques, furnace and A/C dust; lots of junk, and I feel it all. That with all my meds, soft drinks, fast foods, and pesticide residue aren't going to make me too dang healthy. Vaping may not be a perfect choice, but unless I return to "nature" it's by far the best there is. I'm doing 12 mg now and will work it down to 0, as well as no flavor. Still have the habit part to deal with.

Well, I for one have to go against the grain here. The whole purpose was/is to improve my health/lifestyle and stop doing damage to my body. The research done across the pond shows us that SOME flavors damage living cells. Still, it was at a level about 70% SAFER than smoking a cigarette.

I enjoy vaping, but given the fact I smoked almost 29 years already I figure stay away from the flavors that are more risky. I am finding it difficult to find out exactly which flavors those are though :(

You don't have to inhale, seriously i very seldom inhale. I found out how to here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/337017-inhalation-technique-e-cigarette.html

Here is a Hypothetical Situation:

Say the FDA Allow the sale of Liquid Unflavored/Unsweetened Nicotine Base up to 18mg. It is going to be More Expensive of course because of the Taxes and Regulatory Requirements. Perhaps 3 times what Nicotine Base cost now.

Would people be OK with that?

No. I'm saving a truckload right now. I have to. My main source of work was in Spain. They like to collapsed. I gotta "economize" like crazy. I know you can spend a lot on vaping but you don't have to. I get my unflavored at $30 for 236ml. $90? No, no, no, no.

Not unless the FDA freaking pays for it.

And I'm not going to trust those people until they yank Chantix off the market. Until then, they got nothing to say.

(I admit, suicide is one way to quit smoking but I'll pass thank you)

I am slightly concerned and will be doing more research. As I'm trying to quit cigarettes I sort of need to inhale to fulfill my habit, in the future I'll see if I can do more of a cigar puffing action and see how that works.

That is my issue as well, if I do not inhale...it leaves me wanting. Too much wanting, too much missing. Funny though, now I have "vaper's cough" first thing when I wake up. And what I am coughing up tastes just like the juice I vape the day before.

Hi,

There are ALOT of flavor juices out there and I really like some of them, but I am worried about with actually those flavorings are and if there are any side effects of sucking those chemicals into your lungs.

I know that vaping is generally safer than smoking but could vaping unknown chemical flavorings persent a higher risk than vaping unflavored juices?

Also do you think that USA made juices are safer than say EU/ Asia made juices. I know there is no regulation for juices and that is quite scary if you really think about it.

thanks

All reputable US flavorists use only the highest quality USP grade, and/or FDA approved ingredients. A couple of my personal favorites are the Perfumer's Apprentice (The Flavor Apprentice) (Perfumer's Apprentice) and Wizard Labs (Wizard Labs). For the most part, I know what is going in my juices (flavors), and it's exactly the same thing that goes into our food. I know, that's the scary part, as even organic foods allow over 500 different additives, and not all of them are totally safe. That being said, these approved chemicals are already in our food, our water, our air, etc. and I can't avoid them even if I try.

Compared to the more than 500 chemicals in cigarettes, which combust into more than 4,000 different chemicals, of which more than 100 of them are known carcinogens, and since vaping does not use hydrocarbon combustion, I feel and know that I'm about 1 million percent better off now, than I was a few months ago when I quit. I am a cancer researcher for a major institution here in the U.S., and work with many medical professionals, particularly in the holistic and naturopathic world, and vaping is far less harmful than the Standard American Diet (SAD), by a long shot. Compared to smoking, it's a no brainer. The latest reports indicate that the vapor from e-cigarettes has no measureable affect through either second or third hand exposure. Nicotine is a toxic substance at high concentrations, but is already in our food chain. We find nicotine in broccoli, spinach, etc. Nicotine at lower levels is found in all human beings, and in moderate levels has been shown to be no more harmful than a cup of coffee, and may even be beneficial. Vaping is probably less dangerous than breathing the air we are all exposed to. There have been very few studies on vaping, but the few that have been done have shown no negative affects. Surely if they had, believe me, we would have all heard about it. Vape on!

The Reason I mentioned it is I believe this will be a Best Case Scenario with the FDA.

I hope I am wrong. And I fear that it could be Much Worse.

So maybe now is a Good Time to Start making some Contingency Plans.
