So, if the V2's switch issues were just 'maintenance', why did PS come out with the V3 to 'fix those issues'? Maintenance isn't an issue, right. Or is it?

V3 still requires maintenance synthnadz .... We just made it even EASIER to perform.
Performing maintenance on the V2 could be a bit tricky. The hardest it gets on a V3 is the screw.
The thread was closed because this issue has been beaten over and over and over again. It's simple- the switch requires maintenance. End of story. Steve has said it, I've said it, other users have said it. If you don't want to perform weekly maintenance to keep the device clean, then no, the switch will not work.
I personally am very happy with my V2 now that I have the SS switch. It takes very little maintenance. I just use a little Ox-gard and clean it every couple weeks. I also got a good friend of mine to order a V3 after he fell off the non-smoker wagon. Kind of curious as to how it will compare but have high hopes.

I must be doing something wrong: I have another 14500/510 device going on 4 mos. now and all I do is put in a charged battery, top off the cart, and it hits every single time. No maintenance other than to wipe out the adapter every few days; no switch to fuss with, nada..........
Which device would that be? PM me if you feel more comfortable than posting it. In all honestly I also have a BB as my backup device because its never hit as well as my Protege. I think there lies the difference between mechanical and electrical switches.
Not really trying to be facetious but if your device has an electrical switch, I hope you have a backup. Because those generally aren't user serviceable.
After having suffered through that trauma last year, I won't have another device, especially a mod, powered by an electrical switch. As far as I'm concerned, mechanical switches that I can maintain/service myself are the only way to go. And no, I'm not necessarily shilling for Pure Smoker although I am, admittedly, a big fan. Other vendors have mechanical switches too. However, all mechanical switches require maintenance.
Silver Bullets have an electrical switch and I have had both of mine since October 2009. They both still work perfectly. Now I also have the new Omega which has a mechanical switch and requires no maintenance. I don't believe ALL mechanical switches require maintenance. I think it depends on the switch design and the materials used.
IF I had to though....I would buy a new Silver Bullet once a year. The cost is low and I KNOW the warranty is always honored, but rarely to never needed.
That's cool. You have backups, which was my main point.

Edit: I just saw the thread in the Altsmoke subforum where Chad says there is no recommended regular maintenance routine. That's cool too. But at least he posted that "just in case" video to show you how to do it if needed. Personally, I like knowing exactly how to disassemble my PV and clean/maintain it. Because I am convinced that, not just with PVs but with anything, if anything can go wrong, it will. And at the worst possible moment.
