I have been vaping for almost 3 years now and never, ever had this happen, but my daughter had it happen last night. I am so happy she has finally quit smoking and she has taken to vaping like it's the newest, greatest hobby in the world. She has a Provari mini and it was a smoketech carto that she had just primed with 6mg coffee juice that is a pg/vg blend..we both use it all the time. She is totally freaked out and says she is afraid to vape now. She said she primed the carto and took a hit and it instantly burned her throat all the way down to her lungs and it hurt all night. These are some new cartos we just bought as we usually use Boge. Anyone heard of this or have any advice??? thanks for any response, I have been searching but found nothing like this.:(

Was this a NEWLY opened bottle of juice????????

Had this happen a few months ago - Mix was supposed to be Pancake
Burned like swallowing FIRE and Lungs hurt for 2 days
After 2 weeks I placed 1 drop diluted with 1ml unflavored into an atty. Same results, though caution avoided injury.

I've been using Smoktech cartos for over a year and never experienced anything like that. Because your daughter is new to vaping my first is idea is that maybe she didn't saturate the carto fully before use. Second idea: she hit a lower resistance carto with too many volts.

I'm thinking something similar. New cartos that aren't properly saturated will result in the burning sensation described.

I've gotten some cartos that were WAY lower ohm than they were supposed to be...and burned like holy smokes even with only 3.7volts!

I've gotten a bit gun shy and always check ohms now.

But it COULD be the juice is messed up somehow. Or maybe some machine oil in the cartomizer. But it's an anomaly...such bummer cartos and atties don't happen often. Still.... once is enough!! I sympathize!

A friend of mine I was having the same problem her first time vaping. She was using my equipment that I had just been vaping on so, I knew it was not the equipment. It turns out she was drawing directly into her lungs. That's how she smokes analogs. I explained to her how to draw into her mouth and then inhale into her lungs. By doing that, the vapor is diluted with air before hitting the back of the throat and the lungs. Once she got the technique down, she really enjoyed vaping.

I remember when I first started vaping, the direct lung inhale was quite catastrophic... burned like crazy and was generally unpleasant, never stayed sore for a long period of time though. Now, every once in a while I will take a huge lung hit off a 1 ohm RBA to show off the massive cloudz, its not the greatest feeling but I am fine in a minute or so after. Even the lowest resistance carto is not going to be super hot at standard voltage (3.7ish).

I am thinking that it was not saturated properly and she got a lungful of burnt polyfill smoke. I would toss that particular carto and try again with another one. If it is standard size, it should be holding about 25 drops of juice. Even if it looks saturated at the top, the lower filler around the coil might not be. What I have done in the past is drip in juice until the top stops absorbing it, usually around 10 drops, then cover the battery end with a finger and thermometer shake it, then add a few more drops and repeat until its truly flooded. Then blow the excess out from the battery end and try to vape it, usually it is still flooded so I blow it out a couple more times until it works. You only have to consider this on a fresh fill, top-offs do not require it. To me, a little wasted juice and extra effort is worth it to make sure I don't destroy a brand new carto. I intentionally flood new tank cartos as well. Actually, I do with new or freshly cleaned clearomizer heads too. There's no point in putting up with even a slightly burnt taste.

i direct inhale, its not something that feels like that even on the first try.

smoktechs take longer to saturate than other cartos, if not primed properly they BURN instead of VAPORIZE. Burn = polyfill actually combusting, vaporize = polyfill heats and vaporizes juice, but doesnt combust.

smoktechs are hands down my favorite cartos, but you need to be patient with priming and vape at initial low temps and work your way up, or something like you described will happen. after they are working, they are great. i havent received a dud in over a year.

Everytime I get a new atty, I drip 10 drops into it, even though it only holds 2 or 3 before leaking. I then suck through it to get the coil saturated, then blow all the excess out. Didn't do this one time after cleaning and it burned like hell and had no flavor of the juice. So. my guess would be unsaturated coil.

Yeah, that's not a normal lung inhale (can be uncomfortable but not what you're describing) - that sounds like burnt polyfill/coil. I mouth inhale and have only had the experience once, ages ago when I was a newbie, but it's unforgettable. In my case it was a non-tanked carto and I'd actually grabbed a blank instead of the one I'd just filled! Ugh, yuk. It really is a very rare and very avoidable problem.
You want a DEEP saturation.
