No myth really. A lightning strike can cause a power spike or surge. Those can damage electronics. However, investing in a few good surge suppressors can alleviate that concern. Stick with a brand like APC or TripLite if you can. They generally offer fiscal guarantees that if you are using their device and something still fries, they will replace it.

I go a step further and have my cable modem and WiFi router on a battery back up, so even if I lose power, I can still have my laptop online.

I have a Tgo...the 510s will not fit...different threads. I'm sorry I didn't see the question earlier. I've been bouncing back and forth between 5 different threads.
