I literally found out about e-cigarettes yesterday, and that was by chance. I am completely intrigued.

Here's the deal. I LOVE to smoke, but I can stop for days at a time. My wife doesn't approve of smoking. When I'm at work, I'll smoke a few cigarettes a day, but if we are gone for a week or two on vacation or what-have-you, I don't really need a cigarette. So I don't think I'm necessarily addicted to nicotine, but I love the sensation. A couple terms I've picked up in literally the first five minutes of visiting this forum are "throat hit" and "lung hit." These are maybe more important to me than nicotine content. I love the way smoking FEELS. In my throat and lungs, and in the exhale. Forgive me if I sound like a ......

I can really see myself getting into e-cigs as an alternative for several obvious reasons, but can anyone give any recommendations as far as where to start? Especially considering my criteria...more of a "hit" than anything else. I could see myself buying a couple different options for different situations, so look doesn't really matter. Although I have seen (on these forums) some pretty weird looking contraptions that I'm not sure I'd be into. I'm probably more of a traditional-looking cigarette or pen-type of guy. At this point, any help would be extremely appreciated. Where to buy, what brand, what model, etc.

Sincere thanks in advance.

My advice, for what it's worth is this --

Don't do it. Don't buy anything.

Understand this. I am in awe of people like you that can lay a cigarette down for weeks at a time. I wish I could but I know that I can't. I once quit, no make that stopped, for 12 years. I smoked one in a drunken stupor and went right back to it. If you can stay away from smoking and/or vaping by all means, stay away from it. There may come a time when you won't be as strong and may become addicted.

You will likely get a plethora of advice on your request for information re: e-cigs. You'll pardon me if I'm not one of them.

Best of luck, Koz.

I understand the other posters reasons for their advice to not start vaping at all if you can go so long without a cigarette. It difinitely sounds like you're one of the lucky few who can do that and are not addicted to nicotine.

However, as an adult who 'loves' the 'sensation' of smoking I feel it is your right to make your own personal choices. If you do decide to try e-cigs (vaping) I would highly suggest that you NOT use the nicotine liquids. You can vape a zero-nic liquid and get the sensation you love without the risk of addiction. There is a Canadian supplier who recently took a poll (in the 'Suppliers' forum), for people who are interested in buying no-nic juice due to the Canadian ban. Zero-nic juice will still give you the sensation and the 'throat hit'.

An ecig that is similar to a real cigarette in size and shape which also gives a great 'hit' is the 510. Also called, Dura, Dura-C, Titan, Yeti, Joye 510, and probably a couple other names that I missed. You can buy them in white with an orange or red LED, in black with a blue LED, or with no LED.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but again, I would HIGHLY suggest to NOT use the nicotine liquids.

Wow, this is a tough room. :) I don't think I necessarily agree with the advice to not pursue e-cigs for this person. While he doesn't seem to have the addiction that most of us have to nicotine, he clearly has an addiction to the act of smoking, which many of us also have (myself included).

I would take a guess that many on these forums are as addicted to the act of smoking as they are the nicotine. There is always the option of using 0 nic. Kozmoe would get the desired experience without the nicotine and it would still be safer than smoking an anolog. He is still a smoker even if more of a social smoker.

Kozmoe, I think the links gep provided are a good place to start. I would also recommend just looking around and reading different opinions on various threads. Everyone has different needs and different ideas on the best. Best of luck to you.

Vaping zero nicotine wouldn't be so bad. Vaping nicotine when you aren't addicted ....not so good. That's all I really want to get across.

Most of us are either trying to shake the monkey on our backs or at least keep him (analogs) from killing us. Guess that's why we react so strongly when someone who isn't addicted expresses an interest in it. Especially those of us who have close relatives who have died from or who are fighting emphysema, COPD, congestive heart failure, and in the case of my twin sister, Stage IV lung cancer.

I know I wish I had never started smoking. I have tried everything to quit and I couldn't put them down until I started using the e-cig. So I've mitigated the damage or at least I hope I have but it may be too late...who knows what'll show up on my next medical exam.

If you don't smoke, don't start.

I agree on all accounts. Though some have turned vaping into somewhat of a lifestyle, nicotine addiction is not something to be taken lightly. I've been smoking for over 40 yrs, but vaping less than a week & I already have 3 systems . . . Because I want to quit using tobacco so badly & hopefully I'll live longer.
If you don't have the nic addiction, please do yourself & everyone you know a favor & walk away.

Besides, there's always beer & tequila

Cheers,
NB

to anyone telling him (in a rather rude way, I might say...) to "find a different hobby" or other of the like, might want to get off your high horse and realize that for some people the mental addiction is just as bad (or good in this case) as the physical addiction.

I personally "stopped" for 3 years, cold turkey. Stress started me up again, but I things about smoking. I hate the smell. I hate that my wife is a non-smoker and I stick around her. I hate what I am doing to my body.

But I do ENJOY things about smoking. I enjoy having a smoke with a drink, whether it be whiskey, beer or coffee. Goes hand-in-hand. I am on the road a lot. I enjoy the comfort and relaxation of smoking. I enjoy smoking cigars for the same reasons stated prior. But unfortunately, smoking analog sticks is 11ty times worse than e-cigs.......Isn't that the reason YOU smoke them, naysayers?

I plan to not go through too many nicotine carts at all when mine arrives, and am going to make my own flavored juice without nicotine. Then I can get over the physical addiction and enjoy parts of smoking in a much safer (perceived) manner.

not to mention the fact that threadstarter clearly DOES go back to smoking cigarettes regularly, whether he stops for a period of time or not. So he IS technically addicted to nicotine, hence he's a smoker.

People need to realize there are going to be a lot of people like this. Casual smokers who don't want to pay the outrageous price, the health risks, or not being able to smoke at a bar the one night a week they go out, because it's not allowed.

So you tell him to "stay away"?

This is an alternative to smoking, i honestly cannot believe the tone of this thread. I mean Yul Brenner death bed commercials:shock: I mean at this rate you should show homeless peoples pictures at the tables in Vegas:p I agree that if this poster is under 18 its a necessary tone to show a non-adult a scare message, but i do not believe he's married at 17. I appreciate that everyone is likely to vape for differnet reasons, nic levels etc. yet some of these posts appear written by the F.D.A:D As a public service, i would tell this gentleman to jump in with both feet and get a fancy vaporizer, like a Screwdriver,or GG maybe a Prodigy or Janty Stick...Live A Little People:cool:

Well, this thread took a turn I didn't expect. I appreciate the advice on all fronts, and I realize that everyone means well. If you are thinking that I have more of a physical addiction than a nicotine addiction, and that I'm considering e-smoking as a safer and more cost-friendly alternative, most likely with the use of nicotine-free cartridges, you'd be correct. I'm always interested in saving money, but there seem to be multiple benefits to "vaping" over analog cigs. This is where I'm coming from. If I can satisfy my particular cravings without sucking all the nicotine and chemicals provided by analogs into my lungs and save some money in the process, it sounds like a pretty good idea to me. And thank you to everyone who came to my defense.:)
