Hi all! After reading threads, taking notes and watching video's for months (no joke) it's about time I stop reading and take the plunge. It seems like the more I read the more confused I get and the less I know.

Anyway, I feel pretty good about the decision that I'm going to make for my first, the Joye eGo starter kit from Cignot. At least I think it's a good decision until I read another 5 posts and change my mind again.

I really would appreciate some input on what to order for my Mother. She's a senior, saw one on TV that "looked like a cigarette" and wants that type.

For her, I was thinking of either ordering the Smoke Tip starter kit or the MaxX Fusion starter kit. I was leaning toward the Smoke Tip because it appears that many long time members started out with that and seemed to be pretty successful. She has severe health issues and it'd be a dream come true if she could switch. Is this a good idea, bad?

My question is, are the cartomizers (I think that's the word) refillable or do they have to be purchased from them? They seem pretty pricey.

Thanks for any input!

One more quick question- I was watching some video's last night that a member made as a newbie. I think it was a series of about 7 video's and forgot to bookmark it and can't find it. Anyone have a link?

Thanks again-

Personally, I think you made the right decision on the eGo for yourself. My first real pv was a joye 510 and within a week upgraded to a joye eGo, so if I had to do it over again I would have started with the eGo. Don't get me wrong I still love my 510 but the eGo just lasts so much longer between charges. Cartomizers are refillable and there are plenty of how vids on the subject. I'm still new at this myself and don't have any experience with the other brands you mentioned for your mom, but I say you can't go wrong with a joye 510 (IMHO). I wish you and your mom all the best!!!

Be well

If you want to save a buck, check out the eGo ($40) and Riva ($30) kits at Liberty Flights. The KR8 (SmokeTip) does have a better battery life than the standard 510, but mlinky is right about being able to share equipment if necessary. Of course, if she doesn't live near you, it won't matter anyway. Personally, I didn't like SmokeTip cartomizers, but the company is convenient with its fast/free shipping. Plus, there's a lifetime warranty on the batteries.

edit: Yes, the cartomizers for SmokeTip are refillable.

Don't buy anything if you don't know what model it really is, whether it's a good model, and whether you are paying too much or buying a rebrand with crippled carts that are hard to refill. All cigarette-looking e-cigarettes are made by a handful of Chinese companies and all of the good ones are also sold under their original names or model number at reasonable prices. Did you read the multipart illustrated guide in the Library here? (follow the link in the New Members sticky thread with Library in its title).

I believe Smoketip is a KR8080D-1 also sold as Vapor King at Vapor4Life.com (in nicer colors for a slight premium and with tons of prefilled cartomizers). If Smoketip's prices are reasonable (i.e. no more than $19 for a spare battery) then they may be fine to buy from. This person liked them.

I don't know what MaxX Fusion is - might also be a KR808D-1 but I know nothing about the company.

As for KR808D-1 - It's a good and popular model. Good quality. Super convenient but not the cheapest way to go due to the cartomizers - they can be refilled some say 4-13 times if used carefully and not dragged on dry (because that can burn the stuffing). A carto typically holds twice as much juice as a cart so they need to be refilled less often, however refilling is a bit more complicated (IMO). Cartos are considered disposable and some rebranders may sell ones designed to discourage refilling (hard or glued endcap, etc).

KR808D-1 gives a pretty strong warm flavorful hit in my opinion - not the kind of unit you can drag hard on like cigarette. I don't know if I would recommend it for an ultralights smoker or anyone who smokes very lightly with small drags. However it would definitely be a an easy to use model for anyone who has trouble dealing with small parts or maintenance because it's just 2 parts. It has good battery life with standard length and xl batteries, not as good with the shorty batteries.

I recommend manual batteries with a push button on the barrel unless the user is incapable of pushing a button or has strong feelings against that. Some auto batteries can turn on by themselves in wind or vibration because they think it is someone dragging on it. And auto batteries require more dragging in general.

FYI: SmokeTip only has an automatic battery. They are decent ones, but you need to be careful about not getting juice in them either when you are learning how to refill. It can be easy to overfill and have juice leak out. If you decide on a kr808d-1 model, I would second dormouse's suggestion and check out Vapor4Life.

My sister has a SmokeTip and loves it, but she vapes maybe once a week while watching TV. For a heavy vaper, it won't be a great device. I do want to throw out a word of caution on the genuine Joyetech cartomizers from Cignot - they have to be filled with a needle and syringe. You cannot fill these using the condom cap method or dripping through the cap opening. While they hold a good bit of juice, they are a PITA to fill and I imagine wouldn't be appealing to a senior adult. These are some new style of cartos and a lot of people don't care for them. Anyone online saying they can be filled using the condom cap method is likely burning up juice in these particular model cartos in a matter of a few toots.

SmokeTip because of the customer service and batteries are guaranteed for life. Of course I'm biased as it was my starter kit and even though I now have have eGo, vGo, and Riva, I still use my SmokeTip throughout the day.

Yes, the SmokeTip cartos can be refilled, just be sure not to overfill and be sure to follow the cleaning instructions for maintenance. Read the link SmokeTip (you may say it's the same, but it's NOT). I agree with everything in it.

Whatever you decide I wish you and your mother the best of luck. :)

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Elegant Easy from Cig Easy. It's battery lasts an entire day. Great packaging. Cheap prices. Uses KR8 cartomizers...

Granted... I am very new to this. In fact I just received my Elegant today and am using it for the first time. It's also my first pv so I have nothing to compare it to. But from what I've read this is the way to go.

LOL, I'm glad you are happy with your kit, but it is a little more expensive than the same pv from other some vendors.

Wow. I'm pretty overwhelmed by all of the support and feedback from everyone. I hope this doesn't sound corny, but I really appreciate it so much.

I think I'll print this out so I can try to absorb all the info (who knew this would be so complicated?) and be back with a ton of questions.

Thanks again everyone.

Whoops, cignot has the 510 kit for $35 Joye 510 NO BOX choose red led manual white body. Add a couple of packs of tan cartos Joye 510 cartomizers. Made by Joyetech. and enough juice to get free shipping, and you're in business.

That looks like a pretty good deal, thanks mlinky.

I’m a little worried about this through. Is this true about this model?

For me, I don't mind a little fiddling around, in fact I think I'd sorta like it. If it's more complicated than picking it up and recharging batteries, my Mom might have a problem. She calls me 2x a day because she can't figure out her new toaster oven and I've pretty much given up on the thought that she'll ever figure out how to work a DVD player.

Thank God she doesn't use computer to see what I've said about her. :D But she's willing to give it a try so I'm trying to find easy.
