ok now im confused..... i bought the liquid stuff from esmokey treats... does that already have that in it???? i also bought the VG... i mix 50/50. Why do we need the PG??? cant you just mix tobacco flavor with the VG??

Some people find the VG too thick, so use PG instead. Or they add a few drops of distilled water or vodka in with the VG mix to thin it out a little. Either works.

If by what you call "liquid stuff" your talking about flavoured smoke juice, then yes it has some in it already.

Most will use PG or VG to cut the flavoured smoke juice's when they've ordered a high nic content for the sake of lowering that level nic level while at the same time extending their juice supply and saving money.

VG is quite thicker than PG which may cause problems with the atomizer, it is also more sweeter tasting than PG, making a 50/50 mix of only VG too much sweetness for whatever particular flavour. However, VG makes better visual vapor.

PG is thinner, still produces decent vapor, but is somewhat a mixture of between bland and bitter tasting. But using only PG when cutting by a significant amount is fine due to its consistancy although it won't taste as good as it should requiring to consider adding flavors. (For most, this is not an option for VG as well due to preference).

So, mixing the two cutting substances works in their favour to both provide a good consistancy, and to allow maximum vapor by not needing to add water to delute.

A good mixture, by what your currently cutting to if your satisfied where it's at, would be 25% VG / 25% PG / 50% bought smoke juice.

You may want to add flavour if you choose to, and there is a nic-o-matic (I think it's called), downloadable here that will show your mix quantities and what their nic levels would become, but I'm not sure of the link <lazy> and I'm sure someone with it under their finger tips will post it shortly.

There's a lot to read of these type of discussions with DIY liquids and many different experience(s), but with different palates being very subjective, you should wisely experiment and find your own favorite mixture using that tool.

Just got my bottle of PG 'Ph Eur' (= USP),
wondered how pure that is, and if it's actually any different
to 'food grade' PG.

Seems USP is 99.5 to 99.7 % PG, what's the other 0.5 % then ? :

http://www.hychemcorp.com/Propylene Glycol.pdf

Says 0.007% ignition residue (now that's pure!),
and puts USP in the same category as Food Grade.

Also it quite strongly adsorbs moisture from air,
so most of the 0.5% is probably mostly water.
(EDIT: no, that's wrong, the analyses are for the anyhydrous PG)

But :

LyondellBasell - Propylene Glycol USP/EP (PGUSP/EP)

In Europe, propylene glycol USP/EP is not cleared as a general-purpose food grade product or direct food additive for human consumption.
However, it is ......permitted for use as a permitted carrier and carrier solvent in colours, emulsifiers, antioxidants and enzymes at a maximum of 1 gram per kilogram by weight in the final food stuffs.

Wonder why the difference?

And strangely :
21 CFR 582. 1666 Substances Generally Recognised As Safe (except in cat food)

Does that mean I can't let any cats vape on my e-cigs?

I know this thread is old, but I wanted to answer the cat question for anyone else who pulls this up on a search engine (which I did). Cats are natural carnivores and should eat only meat. I'm not a vet, but I was told by my vet that cat food should contain only meat ingredients because cats cannot digest carbohydrate ingredients. Dogs are natural scavengers/omnivores on the other hand, and can eat pretty much anything. My cat was getting sick after eating and it was because I was feeding her a cheap food that had several carbohydrate fillers, so I had to buy Ms. Fancypants the good stuff...
