Are "ibtanked" tanks the best quality out there in the $30-40 price point?

Yes, the Phiniacs do have thicker walls which makes them more durable, and they have the etched designs which I really like. :D

I have both, IBT and phinaic. Now I haven't dropped the IBT yet, so can't really speak in regards to the durability but my phiniac is one tuff cookie. I've dropped it empty on tile floor in the kitchen... not a scratch. Two nights ago while at work, I laid my jacket atop some chest high lockers, then laid my provari /w phiniac tank atop the jacket. As I exited the restroom I wasn't thinking since I was in conversation with a co-worker, I just snatched my jacket off and while walking around the corner my heart skipped as I realized what I'd just done. Looked back around the corner, provari lying on the concrete, carto and tank bent to the side, drip tip broken off clean down around the O-ring. Picked it up, did a function check (all ok), eyeballed the phiniac, not a scratch or crack. I think the delrin endcaps helped absorb the shock.

For no more than $30-40 I'd stick with the IBT but I definitely love my Phiniac.

I haven't dropped my IBTanks from the same distance that Chohan has, but they have rolled off of a dressing room bench onto a tile floor, and fallen as I was getting out of my car onto the asphalt in the parking lot. No cracks or scratches on the tank or Provari.

I did have two pyrex tanks of another vendor's that fell off of the same bench that totally shattered upon impact with the floor. Only a matter of coincidence or chance? (I will add that the vendor sent me another tank for free after stating that he has recently changed his glass supplier. You know who you are, and I sincerely thank you.)

I know, I should really be more careful where I lay my vape gear.

Just 2 cents from another person who is sensitive to metallic taste; I can't use std atties or anodized drip tips
without it tasting like I am sucking on a penny.

I use SS drip tips with no discernible effect on taste, and once I switched to glass tanks, I went with SS caps
and can not tell any difference in taste between my tanks and a regular cartomizer.

As far as aluminum goes, raw aluminum is a no no because of oxidizing and leeching. The general
consensus is that anodizing makes it safe, but since I still get a metallic taste from anodized drip tips,
I am leery of this and I'll stick with SS or delrin.

( though, to be fair, it was a cheap drip tip and the anodizing did not have that hard glossy look of other
anodizing I have seen )

IBTanked has a nice simple XL tank with SS caps for less than $30, and the caps come with a rubber gasket
to go between the steel and the glass. This should give them a little more shock protection, though I have
yet to drop a tank, so I don't know for sure.

Now all we have to worry about is the rubber in the o-rings. I had to replace the o-ring on one of my cheaper
SS drip tips because I noticed it was getting soft after using one of my stronger juices.

I'm up to 7 IB Tanks and 3 Phiniac. Those are the only ones that I own. I'll recomend the IB Tanks to anyone wanting to see if they want to go with a carto/tank. In fact I'll recomend them to anyone looking for a tank. Great product and Customer Service is fantastic. The Phiniac's were just something personal to me cause I had em custom sandblasted. I'll eventually wind up with nothing but carto/tanks one day. But till then, (I still can't figure out what flavor is in the shinney penny tank.) Gonna drive me nuts cause I want more of it.

ive got 2 IB Tanks and 1 IB pyrex tube for my DuD. they are very thick tanks. very pleased with them.
the o-rings are very snug when you first get them, but after a few fills, they loosen up a tad- just enough.
when punching cartos for the carto tanks, its important to run a tight revoultion of tape over the portion where youll be punching. i use masking tape. it prevents deformation just enough for the carto to slide in nicey nice. just dont forget to pull off the tape after punching :) also, i have noticed that this method also prevents the screw grease from the carto punch from gettign on your filler material.

as far as I know, the anodized layer does halt the leeching of aluminum into liquids. It will still leach, but not as much or as quickly and it will completely resist corrosion and rusting. I do know that Iron, Chromium, and Nickle all leach into acidic foods through the chromium layer of stainless steel, so I'm certain that aluminum would leech through the oxidized layer of anodized aluminum. But nothing to worry about health wise. Aluminum does have a twangy taste for sure. It is said that each individual in the US and developed countries consume about 3 to 10 milligrams of aluminum each and every day through canned foods, utensils, and food and beverage manufacturing facilities and preparations. I know because I just looked it up :D

oh and FWIW, i have read that all canned food is canned in cans with a water-based polymer lining the can. same with beer. i was told that this makes the metal untastable.
