I'm a former Marine - '68 to '71. The service was a whole lot different back then.

Well, thank you as well! Were you ever stationed at Fort Ord? I would have to imagine that the service was different in a good way back then.

I did boot camp at Parris Island, schooling at Camp LeJeune, then on to Barstow and then to Treasure Island. Females weren't allowed in combat zones back then. We were taught we were ladies first and Marines secondly - which I thought was dumb even back then.

The marines still treat woman like garbage from what I hear. You moved around a lot! You ever miss having to pack up and go all the time?

I wasn't treated like garbage by the majority of Marines. A few thought women in the service were eithr loose or gay but that was what the same thought many people had at that time. I hear some of the same garbage about females in the service even now-a-days from idiots. Some things never change.

I had no problem with the moving around. I got to see different parts of the country which I liked and met many good people as well as losing some friends in 'Nam.
