No. We are not considered smokers. People who use the patch are not considered smokers, neither are those who use Chantix etc. If the question was "do you use nicotine" you would answer yes. I tell my doctors that I vape and asked them whether I should check yes on "do you smoke" they both said no.

Thanks for clearing this up. I think it also helps people maintain the correct mindset when they vape, that of being an ex smoker.

In the UK things are a bit different.

You are still considered a smoker (by the NHS and insurers) if you consume nicotine in patch, gum, e-cig or any other delivery method.

In order to be classed as a none smoker for insurance then you must have abstained from Nicotine for over 1 year (more depending on the policy).

It is a shame as even though I have not smoked a cigarette since 5th Jan 2010 I am still considered a smoker by my doctor and insurance company

Such is life....

I've seen a few life insurance apps in my day and they all specifically said "tobacco use" .. To me that would be direct use of tobacco.

I suppose they could argue nicotine being a product of tobacco.. if nicotine killed you and they didn't want to pay. But I highly highly doubt it'd work for them.

I wonder how specifically defined "tobacco use" is in the actual policy .. hmm
Then if it would be "tobacco use", how would they prove it wasn't synthetic nicotine?
