For health insurance reasons you would be a tobacco user, as nicotine can be found in your blood.

What I don't get about this statement, is what if you are using nicotine gum, or the patch, or even nicotine losenges. They are not considered tobacco products right?? They are NRT's why could you not be "getting" your nicotine from one of those if an insurance company does a blood test? I find the whole FDA's "tobacco product" kinda sketchy when they will accept the mentioned NRT's but not PV's

if you ask me it's all ........ and the FDA just hasn't found a way to make money off the PV's yet thats why they are classifying them as a tobacco product!!

I can tell you that there are ways to tell the difference between an actual smoker and an "ex-smoker" on nicotine replacement therapies. I'm not sure if it has to do with the way nicotine is metabolized, but I got the impression it had more to do with the products of combustion that were the tell-tale signs of actual smoking.
There have been threads on this before, and I believe testing for carbon monoxide is a better alternative?

After a few hours s without smoking, one's CO levels can drop to around 30 parts per million. A day or two will get a healthy person down to 2-10 ppm. A reading of 5 ppm would be considered high-normal for a non-smoker who lives in an area of high pollution (parts of Asia, LA until recently). CO testing can tell you if someone smoked recently, but not with any great accuracy. The good news is that it's very cheap, as compared to cotinine testing.

I'll have to inquire and find out more about this tomorrow at the office. I'm sure I can have it explained to me in greater detail. Will report back my findings if anyone's interested...

All very interesting Personally I think we should be classified as nonsmokers since we are not burning anything. I don't believe that vaporizing is smoking since it is only vapor.
I really am curios to see if someone who is a smoker swaps to vaping then calls their insurance company in hopes of not paying the extra 20% as a smoker then get told you are still classified a smoker, that would be one hell of a let down IMO.

I agree I don't think we should be listed as tobacco user's cause technically we could be vaping non nic solution and chewing gum or using patches or any NRT product in combination.

I was wondering if by law like say for Americans & Canadians when we apply for life insurance or health insurance are we still considered smokers our are we nonsmokers? I have been pondering this question even did a google search with no hits on the subject so I am curios as to what everyone thinks and if anyone has tried to apply for any insurance and told them that your a vaper and they said well you have to list yourself as a smoker or what not I am very interested to hear what everyone thinks.

I really don't care about the law much. I do care about my medical insurance provider. I don't want to be arguing with them about this issue during an emergency. So to them I am still a smoker.

Dave

My husband is an agent for a large insurance company. To get a non smoking rate for his policies, you need to be nicotine free for one year and they do test. My one year of not smoking will be here in November. I plan on asking for a non smoking rate on all my life insurance policies........I am currently vaping 4mg. nic and plan on switching at least for a month in Sept. to 0 nic. so that my tests show accordingly--then I will go back to low nic--or stay nic free whichever I feel like. The problem is, there are no long term statistics for the actuarials to use on the effects of vaping. So for now, we are still considered tobacco users.

Think like an insurance company. They want you to be nic free for 1 year. It makes sense. After a year of no nic from any source the odds of returning to smoking is greatly reduced.

How many of us would buy a pack if for some reason we would not have access to e-juice for a month? I would. Heck a couple days and I'd buy a pack.

Neither we are vaporers!! :)

So if you were to apply for say Health Insurance and they ask you, are you a Smoker or NonSmoker you gonna scratch that out and put neither I am a vaper? lol I am only curios as to what people who have been vaping awhile have had any experience with such things and wondering if I were to go for some life insurance if I can choose nonsmoker I don't see anything for tobacco user so that must be a state's thing and I don't see why any one would ask if your chewing nicorette or using any NRT anyone who is using NRT would automatically say nonsmoker and since in blood tests they could not tell whether we are vaping or using NRT. I think we should also be allowed to say we are nonsmokers just like anyone using Nicotine replacement Therapy.
