Because of the newness of the e-cig, there is very little data on the long, long term effects of vaping PG and VG, Nicotine, Alcohol, Sucralose, and other ingredients on the human body. Are we who vape, part of a huge defacto clinical trial? Can we anticipate health problems, 20 years from now? Of course I believe vaping to be less harmful than cigarrettes or I wouldn,t be doing it.

Regarding young people under 18, we know that teenagers will experiments drugs, alcohol, cigarretes, etc. While I don't think nicotine should be given to non-smokers, I would personally feel better if my daughter came to me, and wanted to start vaping a 0 nic juice, than to have her smoke regular cigs in secret.

Yes we are, but all the evidence points to vaping being safer than smoking.

My advice: if you don't smoke, don't vape. We are a strange bunch that are hopelessly addicted and have to suck on weird machines. It is not sexy or cool. I enjoy the tech of it all, and love discussing juice flavors, but I never lose sight that we are strange, addicted fools. But perhaps fools that will live a bit longer than we might have...

The real problem is the mind control chemicals they put in cigarettes. We can't let Big Tobacco and Big Pharma get ahold of our juice, or they'll do the same to us.
Yep, once had a guy try to convince me of that. Actually, he told me that's why he started chewing.. because, you know, the government doesn't put mind control chemicals in chew.
Nah, though, you're right, it's a gamble, but probably a safer one than tobacco. As an asthmatic, the short term benefits seem to clearly indicate that vaping is healthier.. but that's really not an indication of the long term effects, either. Time will tell, I suppose.

I guess we are the guinea pigs. The data collection has to start somewhere. Twenty years from now we'll probably have a better idea of the effects of vaping. Hopefully, because I'm vaping and not smoking, I'll be around then to see what the studies show.

As others have said, vaping is surely less harmful than smoking. But totally safe? I doubt it. Our lungs and respiratory system were designed to take in air, not chemicals or synthetics. Inhaling these things on a regular basis must have some effect. How detrimental that effect is remains to be seen. If I wanted to be truly safe it would stand to reason that I quit vaping.

Nearly 5 years in now and still proud to be a guinea pig/pioneer/lab monkey for these wonderful devices. I truly believe that one day, analog cigarettes could be a thing of the past and vaping would be all anyone who chooses to use nicotine does.
And hell, if vaping does turn us all into mutants or kills us, I'll be rampaging/dying happy because I enjoy every second of sucking on these amazingly weird machines.

Yes, we are. Are we sure they are healthy? No. Do we have reason enough to suspect they are healthIER then smoking? Yes. Look how long humans have smoked before the long term effects were really discovered. Thousands, if not tens of thousands of years. Now, we can learn a lot from fairly short studies, and all studies seem to point in a positive direction.

Of coarse we're guinea pigs. Can't have long term data on something that's not yet been around "long term" . There is short term data on vaping and THAT data gives me no reason to be fearful of my vaping to myself of anyone around me. I'm not a person that spends my time worrying much about "what ifs" in life. Life would be pretty depressing if I spent my time doing that. We're all going to die some day no matter what we do or don't do. I may wish to make choices that will increase my odds of living longer, but in the end its all going to end up the same, we're just all going to get there via different paths ;)

Yes we are and I'm happy to add to the data. Since I have no plan to give up vaping, I hope to add my experiences as I hit those milestones. I'm just waiting to hit the one year mark in a few of months. I look forward to 10, 20 and 30 years without cigarettes. To me what is sad is the fact I doubt I will be around long enough to say I have vaped longer than I smoked.

You have probably ingested, inhaled or applied more PG, VG and artificial sweeteners to your skin than you will ever inhale through a PV. Glycerine and glycol are everywhere, and in almost everything that doesn't come right out of the dirt. They've also been around for decades.

If there were any serious health impacts associated with them, they'd have been discovered long ago.
