I tried it again, when I hit preview I get this message

I had a theory on this and given that I was able to do the double siggie as well, I believe I have it figured out. Laurie and I are both supporting members. Extra siggie space is not called out in the post about supporting but you do get extra permissions in other areas of the board once you become one. So my guess - supporting members get more siggie space.

If you mean the line directly above your signature, you can't. It is automatically added by the board to denote where the end of the message is and where your signature begins.
