Kate..as long as you are on the big 10 (or was Mel Brooks right---15?).
Doesn't "Thou shalt not put other Gods before me" acknowledge that there ARE other Gods? Not just one?

Hi Jim,

Durring that time, many people that were taken out of Egypt created their own "Gods" and created "idols". This was one thing that the particular commandment was referreing to.

Another thing that that commandment was reffereing to with regards to "idols" is anything that people would put before God and get in the way of one's relationship with him.

If God is good and we were made in his image. how does that not contradict?
Or is that the part we take metaphorically but the ocean part we take literally? Depends on who you ask.

Yes we believe that we were created in God's image. It is not contadicting anything else. We believe that it is so.

Those that have faith need not look for proof.

Well if there is an all powerful god ....its about time He/She/It told me what exactly it is they want from me....because I am certainly not going to be listening to other 'peoples' 'beliefs' on what He/She/it wants ....and nor am I going to rely on something I read in a book.

If one wants to hear God speak to them they need to have faith that he does in fact exist. To strengthen one's faith, faith comes by hearing and that is hearing the word of God which comes from the same book that you do not want to rely on.

So if that is the case, how do you expect to hear from him?

Many times when people hit rock bottom and they cry out to him with faith, he does answer.

Believing something is true doesn't make it true.
It does contradict. She said there is no such thing as a good person, yet the bible says you are made in his image, and "God is good."
Logical incompatibility.

And many times he doesn't. So if that's the case, why does his answer some but not others when they need him? Thats not very nice.

Not to be argumentative, but in my observations, prayers are answered about half the time. About the same odds as flipping a coin. Therefore, I'll flip the coin. It takes less of my time and effort.

Blind faith is not for me. I am spiritual and a believer but what I believe in is the truth and have spent a good portion of my time examining evidence. I just want to know the truth and sometimes that means giving up biases and long held beliefs. I have put up a web page that delves into the evidence of Jesus and the resurrection. Yes, there is actual evidence but if you really want to know the truth you have to dig into the study and make it your own. When you weigh the evidence that is currently available to us you can then decide what you believe and don't believe.

Greek mythology, for example, claims that the god Atlas was holding the earth on his shoulders.

Completely wrong.

Atlas holds the sky, to prevent it from embracing the Earth. It's his punishment for choosing the wrong side in the war between the Titans and the Olympians.

He was later freed by Heracles, who built what we now call the Pillars of Hercules to hold up the sky in his place.

It's a common misconception, much like the fallacy in Christian mythology that says there were 3 wise men. The Bible refers to three gifts, but the wise men are not numbered.

People see statues of Atlas holding up the celestial orb, and often mistake it for being the Earth.

Well you're right about that part. The bible only tells us about three of them, just like the two on either side of Christ at the crucifixion. Sometimes we hear stories from childhood and assume they are fact or possibly just remember them wrong. You'ld be suprized the number of people who believe some things are in the bible that really aren't. That's why we go to it as our source so often. It's easier to take someone's word than to research for accuracy.
