are you taking out the polyfill, when making a cartomizer tank mod?

hi
i am new in tank modding.and i would like to know, are you taking out the polyfill, when making a cartomizer tank mod?or it will leak from bottom?
and want to share my experiment with cartos to make them live longer:
after couple of fills,cartos loses taste and vapor (end of its life),i take out polyfill and wash the carto with tab water then couple dry burns and insert a half tea bag (takes max 10-20 drops) more clear taste then polyfill. they work like brand new,i am still using one of them about 2 months now(6th dry burn).and i wonder how long will it last?did anyone tried this before?

Sounds like a good idea. I've tossed around the idea of changing the poly out for cotton gauze myself
