Hello Everyone,

Just to let you know.... I am a real dentist (20 years+) and I enjoy E-Cigs very much.

Having said that, some of the people who are new to E-Cigs may notice that their gums are bleeding more then before they smoked when they brush or floss their teeth. This is a normal situation for many people who have recently quit smoking as the blood flow to your gums is increasing which is a good thing. Smoking normal cigarettes decreases the blood flow to your mouth as well as other parts of your body and reduces your body's ability to fight off infections and gum disease.

Smoking will mask or hide some symptoms of gums disease such as bleeding gums when you brush them and or floss them. Healthy gums do not bleed! Sometimes gums will not bleed even though they are infected due to the effects of smoking cigarettes. Now that you have stopped smoking and are using E-Cigs your body can fight off gum disease better with the increase in blood circulation to your body overall. If your gums are still bleeding more when you brush or floss them after several weeks of not smoking then this is a sign telling you that you have some form of gum disease or periodontal disease which needs professional treatment and you need to get them checked out and cleaned at your favorite dentist. Good Luck!

I for one am willing to believe that you are what you say you are, until proven otherwise, and everything you posted, makes sense to me. The main thing I've noticed is that my teeth are still white and shinny since my last cleaning. Did have one issue around an implant, which the dental hygienist noticed and shot some heavy duty antibiotics in there and having the periodontist take a look next week to make sure the choppers are good.

Always good to get input from the medical segment of the vape crowd. Glad you posted on this, because it addresses a likely concern for some.

What kind of gear you vaping with doc? Noticed you are a new member, so welcome aboard, and congrats on your vape!!

Vape long and Prosper!!

And keep those choppers clean? lmao.

No, I haven't experience gum bleeding. And I don't buy that you are a DDS or DMD for one second.

Novocain much?

Sure hate to be your first patient this morning.

Really trying to understand why you are being such a di, um I mean Richard today, or did I fail to see that you were always so? Every comment you have made on this thread has been negative and condescending. What up, S.O. kick you out? Vapemail get delayed?

Thought the whole idea was to welcome new members here and to share their experience, not to be a chit. Just Saying.

Dear yzer!

Not the most friendly post you sent? Get up on the wrong side of the bed today sir yzer? Good for you that you did not experience any gum bleeding as not everyone does. I did not mention DDS or DMD but in fact that I have a DMD degree with 4 years of Dental College at Tufts Dental School in Boston and 4 years of school at Boston College with a Chemistry Degree in case you were interested :). Why the hostility and disbelief.... did I day something that upset you as I was just trying to share my knowledge with others that might be experiencing some of the symptoms of quitting smoking real cigarettes.

Please correct me if I stated something that was not correct as you can find many such articles about what smoking can do to you and your gums as well as what can happen (I did not say will happen but can happen) to those that quit smoking cigarettes. Others benefits of stopping smoking as far as the mouth is concerned is an increase in taste (and smell). less staining of the teeth and an increase of your tasting ability. A lot of taste comes from your palate and smoking interferes and blocks this as the heat from the cigarette causes the tissue to loose its permeability but I am sure you already know this :). This is why people with upper dentures loose a lot taste when eating as their taste buds on their palate are blocked. This is why hot or warm food tastes better because the palate can pick up the taste of the food molecules better.... but I am sure you knew this already being the ECG Veteran that you are with all of your 3,299 posts and experience!

Anyway, sorry to hear you are so skeptical which is not a bad thing as you should not always believe everything you read and you should always follow up what you read on line and do some research on your own. To come out right away and state that you do not believe someone is who they claim to be? Why make a such a comment unless many of the things I said are untrue. Did you fact check any of what I said? I was just trying to help others who may experience symptoms of quitting smoking as I do not have any hidden agenda and am only trying to help others with my knowledge and 20+ years of experience. Good luck to everyone!

Hello doc and welcome to ECF. Many users have experienced (and described on these boards) bleeding gums after switching to vaping. Thank you for your post.

Dear patkin,

Just curious what is in disagreement and thanks for the feedback as you are much more civilized then that strange person yzer as he has some serious issues :). Smoking is a key factor along with genetics in people with periodontal disease as I see it every day in my office. Any Periodontist will agree with this as it has been researched quite a bit. Smoking can causes poor blood circulation and effects many parts of the body .... not just the mouth. With less blood flow, your body can not fight off infections as well which in turn can and may lead to Periodontal or gums disease which is the destruction or breakdown of the hard and soft tissue surrounding the teeth. Yes, I do agree that it can cause some dry mouth but this is mostly caused from medications. Using Biotene is a good mouth rinse to counteract dry mouth symptoms. Take care... Doc S

Hello dice57,

Thanks for the feedback and nice cat as I have 2 myself along with a 4.5 year old who is constantly trying to wrestle with them.

I could not have said it any better myself except I would call him a very big Richard :)!

Someone must have changed his toilet paper to sand paper and inserted a large stick up somewhere as he is bit of a planet called Uranus.

I think he needs a hug.....

Dear yzer,

Most ECF veterans welcome new members and tend to have good manners unlike yours as you must have missed this lecture. Most veterans on ECF do not behave as childish as you seem to do with your silly posts... What is your problem anyway? Got to cut down on the caffeine or nicotine or drugs because something has crawled deep down inside of you and needs to come out man... just let it go!
