Percentage of U.S. adults aged 18 years or older who were current cigarette smokers in 2012: 18.1% of all adults (42.1 million people): 20.1% of males, 14.5% of females. 21.8% of non-Hispanic American Indians/Alaska Natives. 19.7% of non-Hispanic Whites.

That's $168.4 million dollars per day at $4.00 a pack if the averaged number of smokes consumed per smoker came out to equal a pack a day.

From that figure is removed the cost of making the product, federal state and local tax, as well as the money BT has to pay states for the whole tobacco settlement deal.

With more and more smokers turning away from combustible tobacco, and picking up vaping, it is a wonder that any tobacco company wouldn't try to secure the market.

With big money comes the ability to manipulate the market, if you look at a Vuse product it clearly states that Vuse contains nicotine extracted from the tobacco plant. Nicotine is addictive and no tobacco product has been shown to be safe.

To my understanding there is no legal need to include such wording on the package at this time, thus it can be safe to assume the inclusion is for marketing reasons.

BT is smart when it comes to protecting their interests, and it is going to be a david and goliath battle for market share very soon.

I for one hope the little rock hits its mark and goliath falls.

Yes I know, Vuse is attempting to establish that all vapor producing products are unsafe, that little blurb is anti marketing that goes hand in hand with getting the market heavily regulated. Vapers or folks interested in vaping don't care about such warnings, but if you read that while in line at the gas station, it leaves an impression. Mostly that impression will fall on the non-smokers and non-vapers.

I think it is an effective ploy. I don't like it, but it may be far more effective than we might like.

this no ploy. the ANTZ are in the process of switching from anti-smoking and second hand smoke being harmful to nicotine addiction and nicotine delivery devices. all this is calculated to squash the market. according to this weeks Senate Finance Committee meeting we are tax dodgers. people switching from little to big cigars, from cigarette tobacco to pipe tobacco and, us vapors are doing so only to avoid paying our taxes. dead beats not pulling our weight. on account of us they have serious budget shortfalls that only heavy taxation of these products can overcome. so you see the gigs up. they are laying all their cards on the table.this is not going to be a very good year for us.

Exactly. They wanna keep taxing the heck out of us instead of collecting taxes from the super rich in this country who can easily afford to pay. :glare:

My state has one of the highest per-pack cigarette taxes in the nation. A pack of marbs costs $11 now. The indian reservations have responded by setting up numerous small shops to sell tax-free gas and cigarettes, because they don't have to pay taxes to the state under treaty law. So how does the state respond? By trying to force the reservations to pay these taxes anyway, in direct violation of treaties. This, of course, is the state that contains new york city, which in turn contains residences for some of the wealthiest people of our country. But they don't wanna tax their most cherished citizens, so they go after smokers and the impoverished natives, all the while proclaiming that they're raising taxes on cigarettes to protect our health by forcing us to quit  It sickens me.

And don't forget they send the IRS after them too...
Not to mention some BIIG corporations haven't been paying their tax's and are getting away with it...
