How do you guys/gals ask permission of a store owner or customers in the store if they mind you vaping...if at all?

To preface this question I don't have children but do have impressionable nephew and niece. I never smoked and don't vape in front of them because they kind of look up to me as a role model. I have had no problem smoking in the past or vaping in the present in front of other people's children outside. I know that may be a bit family centric point of a view or self centered towards my family but just my conscience.

I've never vaped in crowded areas: malls, convenient stores, outlets, bus stops, etc. The exception being a theater in the back.

I've never vaped in a bar although I would if I saw someone else doing it.

At anyrate I was getting my oil changed today in very small shop. Maybe 6 people could fit in the lobby...but there was just the store owner and one other customer in there. It was about a 45 min and thought really hard about asking the store owner if I was allowed to vape. I probably would have if it wasn't for the other customer sitting in the lobby.

I live in midwest and these "trends" are outside of the norm here like they are on the west and east cost. Have a look at the brick and mortar shop map on ECF and you see that midwest has about 10 compared to thousands on east and west coast.

I guess how do you guys broach the subject? As said if it was me and store owner I may have asked, "Do you mind if I use my personal vaporizer in your lobby?" I like the personal vaporizer as it has less stigma than an e-cigarette and I'm not sure if 99% of the population would have any idea what I was talking about if I used the term personal vaporizer. I'm guessing 80% of population would know what e-cig was and have some type of opinion already made up in their mind on the topic.

Then if they say no do you go into the whole pg/vg/nic/flavor discussion or do you just simply oblige their requests? How do you handle the what is a personal vaporizer question that they may ask? I agree it's business owners right to decide and feel I should offer courtesy of asking especially of a small shop so how do you guys go about doing it?

I don't. If it's not a place I'd feel comfortable smoking, I don't typically vape there either.

This^

I just step outside and have my vape.

I vape at home and in my car. I vape walking down the street or across a parking lot. I do not vape in establishments where smoking is not allowed.

Depends on the situation. Generally if not allowed to smoke, I dont vape there, with the exception of stealth vaping at work, or in some establishments where no one can really notice me (only person in an elevator or bathroom). I have never asked if it was okay, and figure if I was "caught" then I would explain, and say if they had a problem with it, I would happily step outside. Most people I have encountered seem more curious than offended. I often get complemented on being courteous, and non-smokers appreciate the non-smoke smell/ eye burning even if they are outside in a smoking area.

I usually will avoid vaping in most places that don't allow smoking, especially food places. However I do make exceptions at bars, and places where you are out doors if it is not crowded. I always ask permission first and respect the answer I am given. I also try and stealth a bit if given permission just to keep things respectful of those around me. I don't think we should hid vaping, however I do think we should be respectful of those around us.

Normally we respect the no smoking rule in most places, however in our part of town we vape openly in the hardware store (we are there every weekend anyhow and they know we tinker with these and will ask what we are doing now..lol). I know the last restaurant we visited we did ask if we could since we were having a large party join us and they did not mind.

"Would you mind if I use my personal vaporizer?" This will probably lead to questions, but I'm happy to explain. :)

I've never vaped in crowded areas: malls, convenient stores, outlets, bus stops, etc.
Personally, I wouldn't have a problem doing it anywhere outdoors unless I was with or unavoidably close to someone who found it nauseous. Indoors I would ask permission of the proprietor, manager, or relevant person in charge before vaping.

(Personally, I would not be inclined to vape inside a restaurant unless I was far from people eating. I don't want people blowing melon vapor while I'm eating, so why would I do it while they're eating? :) )

I live in midwest and these "trends" are outside of the norm here like they are on the west and east cost.
More explanation would probably be necessary in some circumstances. In which case, perhaps you'll weigh to what extent you think the vape is worth the explanation? Sometimes I'd rather just step outside-- but I'm also the kind of person who enjoys stepping outside periodically. That was one of the things I liked about smoking. :)

I like the personal vaporizer as it has less stigma than an e-cigarette
I also think it's less misleading. People hear "cigarette" and they're going to think tobacco, fire, smoke, and a bunch of other non-applicable information. Personally, I'd rather explain what a personal vaporizer is without calling it a "cigarette," even if it took longer, because I think the response would more likely be favorable. That's my preference.

Then if they say no
I'm inclined to abide by the ruling, though I might add more explanation if the ruling was based on a mistake. If, for example, the response was, "No, no smoking is allowed," I would clarify (in a polite rather than hostile or argumentative tone) that I don't and do not want to smoke. In the absence of such a mistake, I would simply abide by the ruling of the proprietor/manager.

How do you handle the what is a personal vaporizer question that they may ask?
Something along the lines of "This device uses a battery to warm a flavored juice to create a delicious aromatic vapor." I might also add, depending on the circumstances, that it's a pleasant, safe, and clean alternative to smoking. :)

I just vape. I don't really stealth vape as the quickest way to draw attention to yourself and give people the idea you're doing something bad is to look furtive. I do try not to blow huge clouds, but I'm totally nonchalant about whipping out my mod. If somebody asks what it is, I'll explain. If they tell me I can't smoke, I find they usually get defensive if I try to explain. I just say no problem and put it away. I've only been asked not to vape twice in recent years. Both times were actually by people that knew what it was, but didn't want to deal with explaining to everybody else that no, they weren't letting somebody smoke in the building.

Be careful with vaping in elevators, some have smoke detectors that can, in some cases, pick up vapor and react. Bad mojo.

I agree that I try to avoid the issue by going outside. I stick to the "if I couldn't smoke..." frame of mind. Pushing limits is a great way to get more people against vaping. Fear is a powerful motivator.

I am the same way, I either wait until I am done with what I am doing, or if I need to I step outside and Vape. I personally just don't feel comfortable Vaping in a building with people around. However, I have a relative that Vapes and she just vapes wherever she is at, even in fast food places, stores, etc. and does not ask permission, which worries me that customers will complain to management and eventually businesses will start posting signs saying No Vaping and it will just be another negative outlook on Vaping.

I don't sealth vape and I don't ask. I try to put some common sense along with that. When vaping I am exposing others around me to the "smell" of my juice. I try to keep in mind of how I fell when I smell a person that has on too much cologne or perfume or a fragrance I don't like the smell of. Vaping has helped me get control of the monkey(nicotine) on my back. I can wait for a vape to satisfy that need now.

I was a 2 pad smoker for nearly 40 years. Even so I managed to get through a meal in a restaurant or shopping without collapsing because I couldn't smoke there. I'm addicted to nicotine but was never that addicted.

Fortunately I can vape in my workplace. Even so I keep a low profile. Too many people are still ignorant about vaping. The negative press doesn't exactly help with that either. I can easily see myself whipping out a dildo like mod merrily blowing clouds in my wake being just the kind of distraction that HR just comes in and says "no more vaping for anyone."

So I don't exactly agree with the "in your face vape" mentality exhibited by many.
