I don't usually ask, with the exception of private homes/vehicles.

Like Ryan said, above, I tend to pay attention to where I am. The more crowded it is, the more likely I am to either stealth or wait.

But you're talking about while you're at work, at customers job-sites. In that case, I would probably either ask, or perhaps stealth if I was confident nobody would know. I wouldn't openly vape without asking, just because it's not worth losing a customer or a job.

I was surprised that the waitress at Carabbas told me I could use my vape there. I sat it on the table and she saw it and told me I could use it! Bonus! I don't eat out a lot because I have Celiac and many restaurants don't have a gluten free menu (or they do and I still get glutened). Never had a problem at Carabbas.

I don't vape if it's crowded, around food, in my friends or family's homes if they're not open to it or places where there are lots of kids around (like the park). Otherwise occasionally I'll have a quick puff in the restroom if the outdoor smoking area is inconvenient, but usually I can wait till I get outside. I've asked at a few bars and coffee spots with mixed results. The cool ones get my repeat business. The others...well, they're doing what they think is right but I'm just not in their target market. ;)

I evaluate the environment I'm in, definitely showing courtesy around older folks and children. In small confined places, I may stealth vape if not too crowded. In malls, Walmart type stores I vape in empty isles or do so discreetly.

When I started vaping, I wouldn't vape if smoking wasn't allowed. Nowdays, I use discretion! :vapor:

I don't vape in stores. Living in NY for my first 50 years has taught me not to smoke in stores. I view it the same as vaping. If I'm going shopping? The vape stays in the car. Not with me, tempting me. Just as the pack of Marlboro Menthol did.

My husband, who still smokes, laughs at me, saying I should vape anywhere I please because it is not illegal. I tell him I can't because I don't want confrontation. Especially now, with all the ANTZ craziness abounding.

<sigh> He's the Rottweiler on vaping and I'm the Labrador Retriever <unfortunately>...

Usually when you're a considerate type, you can kinda "feel" the situation. Depending on that, of course, in the one you were in I might have asked if it was okay to step outside for a vape and left it to them to say... you can vape right here.. I do. I've only been in the situation once and it was in a tiny VA hospital social worker's office going over Hubby and my Living Will instructions... stressful to start with but we had been in there two hours and I don't care much for social-worker attitudes adding to the stress. I just wiped it out, taking two stealths, put it back and told both of them since, their mouths were hanging open, I was sorry but it wouldn't infect them. That's not a typo but it probably was a Freudian slip. Other than that, I've never vaped in a small public area.

Patkin........as usual, you are Freaking Awesome!!!! Some of the VA peeps are absolutely obnoxious. I am so proud of you!

That having been said.....I tend to err on the side of caution, and don't even ask and don't vape in most places Like Pat said, you can usually tell the attitude when you walk into a place. I don't tend to vape inside.......we've had no indoor smoking for many more years than I've been vaping, so It just doesn't occur to me to want to vape where I've never smoked. However, there are a couple of places I have vaped (always ask first, it's just good manners!), the local cigarette shop, and the auto parts store. And yes, I've done a couple of puffs in a mall.

The woman up at the VA hospital is a sheeple who's convinced that we're all vaping antifreeze, so I don't bother up there........but my VA shrink down at the local clinic is For AWESOME, and I vape during our sessions sometimes... ;)

I guess I still don't get the 'stealth vaping'. If a vapor doesn't vape in public because it infringes on a non vapors right of clean air how is stealth vaping any better? Seems kind of like saying, " I won't smoke around non smokers but I'll sneak a few puffs when nobody's looking and if they don't catch me no harm. It's still in their air.

What is this "non vapors right of clean air"? How do you remove the diesel fumes, the spent aircraft fuel etc from the air? Have you sat next to a man on a bus who has eaten a lot of garlic? There is no right to clean air. Exhaled vape is the least of anyone's worries and those that DO worry about it should probably get out a bit more imho..

I've been stealth vaping at work for almost a year now...no one has said anything or even noticed. I'm not sure how they would react if I asked (my better judgement says that they would tell me it wasn't allowed since no one else that works here smokes or vapes, which boils down to uneducation). If they did tell me I couldn't use it, I would stop immediately. I'm not trying to be disrespectful for any reason. I do leave my pv sitting out in plain view on my desk where everyone can see it, so I'm not exactly trying to hide it. Not one single person has even asked me what it is. I figure, I'm not bothering anyone. So I'll carry on as usual until it becomes an issue and then put an end to it.

I don't vape in restaurants or in places where there are kids. I just think it's rude. I was at my 9 year old nieces holiday school recital, and there was an idiot sitting in the front row puffing away like he had no care about what other people thought. Even as a vaper, I was offended. It's people like that who give the rest of us a bad name. Ever since then, I've been very conscious of my actions and how they will affect others.

So....quick short story:

Walked into the local cigarette store just a few minutes ago. I'm buying Ryo stuff for the eldest, and vaping away on my itaste vv v3. Guy next to me says...."tell me the truth....Is it worth it?!?"
An unequivocal YES and a 5 minute conversation later, he has the ecf website on a piece of paper and he is thanking me for possibly saving his life. And THAT means the world to me. Not the "thank you", the possibility of saving a life.

I don't even ask, im so used to not being allowed from my smoking days that im happy to walk outside, or go to the pubs outside smoking area with the rest of the smokers, and chat there for a bit. In fact there seem to be more vapers than smokers in these areas now and everyone including the smokers talk about vaping and there experiences and gadgets. I think more than a few have been converted this way.

And the even better news is that many pubs are happy to let you vape IN the pub. If you ask before you order your pint it saves disappointment all round.
