So far I’ve been working on the V2 and I think it’s coming along great. It’s A LOT of work though and it’s tiring lol! However, I’m really impressed with the results so far. Adds much more depth than the finish Asmodus gives it.

You’d think for the price of these stabwood mods they’d give them a great finish. The SL Class has a beautiful finish but can also be improved upon.

Looking great- nice and shiny!

Colossal owner question. How the bleep do you get the battery out of those things?

I had trouble getting it in originally but I can't remember the details of how I did it. Seemed like there was a spring at the negative end that was majorly strong. Trying to get it out this morning for the first time I just pushed and pulled in every direction I could think of and it hardly budged. Now I've got it charging on the USB.

Do you tilt it and take the neg end out first? It's so tight it seems like that might damage the battery wrap.

If I can't get it out with my fingers, I will take a pen and kind of pry it out. I try to be careful to not rip the battery wrap.

I love the way the wood looks as though it has been folded. It's like a magic trick.

I stick my thumbnail--carefully--underneath the positive end and press the battery upward so that I can then work the positive end out enough to get a grip on the battery and remove it.

Also when there is no battery in it press that spring down with a heavy screwdriver so it is not so high

I did the squish the spring up a bit thing first.

I use a fingernail to pull it out a bit, then hold the battery and pull. It is a bit trial and error - have had to rewrap a couple of batteries that I teared the positive end wrap.

Did read somewhere that using a ribbon to pull the battery out works on some mods, gonna try at myself next time

I did manage to get a battery out of the Colossal. Tried to lift the positive end with my thumbnail but my nail wasn't tough enough. Then I got a piece of hard plastic I had lying around and levered it up far enough for it to pop out. The shape of the plastic meant it was pressing on the insulator ring. The ring got bent down a bit but not torn. I should be able to figure out a shape for a plastic lever that won't mess anything up. Something wider and less pointed.

I did try pushing on the negative contact to compress the spring but it didn't seem to change anything. Maybe the spring relaxes a bit with time. Hope so, I've never had a mod that was so hard to get a battery out of.

Strange because the Minikins by AsMODus all come with ribbons attached like a HexOhm

I have found that it works better when you pop the bottom of the battery(positive end) just enough so that it comes out just enough to not pop back in while pushing up on the battery to try to depress the top spring and then roll the battery out with both ends evenly(as reasonable can). Grab ahold of the battery where you see(in the middle) the indentation of where the battery holder curves in(a place to put fingers) and roll while pulling out. No fight with that way. At least for me. I can try to post pic if needed.

Yes, this explains much better what I was trying to describe.

We really were saying mostly the same thing I just expanded it a wee bit. I also do believe by rolling the battery out while pushing up glides the battery out smoothly. And by positioning both ends evenly(by pulling the neg end to straighten up the battery and then rolling) helps to prevent any bending of the top spring and any tearing of the wrap.

I guess you could just lay a ribbon under the battery and tuck it in when you close the door. Open it and hold one end and pull up on the ribbon.

I thought about that. Thing is, it's not a matter of pulling the battery out. You can get a good grip on the battery to pull it out. But you need to push it up slightly against the spring at the negative end in order to let the positive end move out and I couldn't apply enough lengthways force with my fingers. I might try a ribbon though.

Anyway. While I was writing this I was playing around with it. I found a simple solution. I slipped the side of the battery door under the positive end of the battery and twisted it slightly and the battery popped right out. Probably not a good idea to use metal to do that so I'll try to find a piece of rigid smooth plastic the same thickness as the battery door.

I tried this rolling technique with no success. Problem was I just couldn't get enough grip on the battery to move it up against the spring. Battery wraps are the most slippery substance in the universe. Not to mention even a tiny amount of VG on your skin.

I tried someone's suggestion to compress the spring. I spent 10 mins pushing repeatedly on the negative terminal with the plastic handle of a screwdriver. Don't know if that softened it up or not. Still couldn't get the battery out with my fingers. I'll probably keep on giving the spring a few pushes from time to time.

Then I had the idea of drying the battery wrap to get a better grip. Got the battery and my fingertips well dried out with my tee shirt. At that point I was able to get just enough grip to move it up enough and rolled it, and it came out. Did it a few times. It got easier as I got the hang of the technique.

    Shouldn't be that hard though.

Push up, towards the negative end. And yeah they are tight and difficult to remove. I can’t believe I haven’t torn a wrap yet.

Edit: sorry, didn’t see you’d already sorted it out.

Are you using some sort of polish? Sorry if you said and I missed it. I heard polish with beeswax was okay to use.

I’ve been using micro mesh then renaissance polish. The process is detailed on the VU forum under Show Me Your Stabwoods thread.

Sometimes when I can't get a good grip for any reason to open a bottle or pull out a battery I use a paper towel or even would use the t-shirt to aid me. I just hold the paper towel with my fingers and lay it over what I want to open or pull(its so thin but acts to help get ahold of the item firmly). Once open or out of the mod cleaning it would become much easier and saves much frustration. lol

Do you have one of those silicone things that people use to open stubborn jars? That would help, I bet.

Unrelated: With this post, I become an Ultra Member. One thousand posts since November 2 of last year. I am a terrible chatterbox.
