Sometimes I get extremely startled easily when I am hyperfocusing, as I often do.I'm no expert, but being easily startled I think is a common trait in Aspergers, as it is with Tourette's. I'm a bit like that.

Why is that? It was my son's second grade teacher who first formally suggested testing, which the school district did. Or, are you talking about post-secondary?
I'm not familiar with that being connected to Asperger's (which doesn't mean it's not). That happens to me. In fact, last time I worked in an office, folks would email me before stopping by my office, so I didn't screech and jump when they said hello. Everyone thought it was pretty funny (and weird), 'specially when I had a cup of coffee in my hand.

Good night all. I need to get up early(er), as tomorrow's the first day of school. My daughter's doing school at home again this year. We, my kids and I, are becoming social isolates together.
I can become very startled also when I'm hyperfocusing. It might just be human.

They very well might not have wanted parents to demand accomodations for the disabilities. They were overly concerned about someone becoming offended and suing. Unfortunately that's the world we live in.
And I suppose no one wants to hear their child may have any type of condition. One of my good friends called me a few years ago to tell me her son was bipolar. I answered, "Yes, I know. I've suspected since he was two.". She screamed back, "That's exactly what ______ said, too! Why didn't you guys tell me?!". I replied, "He's your baby, your darling. I didn't want you to be upset. And I might've been wrong."

Yes, and some humans hyperfocus more often and more deeply than most. Very common among some dx's.I can become very startled also when I'm hyperfocusing. It might just be human.
I could be wrong, but I think it's pretty common in ADD, too. I have ADD, and that along with a sort of autopilot running in the background attempting to suppress ticcing in public, can make for events taking me by surprise.@nicnik did you say that you thought being startled is an aspie trait? I am most fascinated by this because I don't know of any other people who have that.... It doesn't just occur when I am concentrating either. It happens just about any ole time. All as I know is it's weird. Certain sounds really bug the heck out of me too.

Well, maybe that's a sensitivity to aural stimulous. I have some tactile sensitivities. Sensitivities to stimuli occurs alot in the autism spectrum.Certain sounds really bug the heck out of me too.

Sounds Autistic to me. Like I said, I'm no expert, though.Wow, I didn't realize that......... When I say sounds bug me I am talking about weird things like people chewing gum, or snapping their gum, people sucking on lollipops and a whole host of sounds like that. I know that may sound really weird but I have always been tormented by sounds like that.
