Neither am I an expert on it...... It has only been recently that I have dealt with my denial and started to accept the fact of what they say I am......I never studied up on autism or Asperger's and so at this point am fairly clueless about it........ But I sure do appreciate your input because like I say, I think you are correct. I will be studying this stuff more in the future.
Two pretty recent studies, that I'm not sure I understand too well:

Prepulse inhibition of the acoustic startle reflex in high functioning autism. - PubMed - NCBI

Increased prepulse inhibition and sensitization of the startle reflex in autistic children. - PubMed - NCBI

A message board discussion among some apparently high-functioning autistics:

I'm of norse descent too......

Just to clear things up. I wasn't strictly thinking of aspies. Not sure how the rates up here compare to globals.

From what my layman's mind can pull from memory, aspies may be "nature" while I.e schizoidism may be "nurture". Wish I could bold out those 'mays' properly.

I'm confusing myself at this point and have forgotten what my point was. There may not have been any. Just got caught up in an interesting thread. Thanks folks!

Wow, I really appreciate the info as it fits me to a tee.. Thanks for taking the effort to dig this stuff up for me, much appreciated. Yes, I see that noises and being startled is associated with Asperger's.... Looks like another mystery answered :)

    :D

I'm very noise sensitive, can not think around noisy people. I just wait it out.

yeah, I know the feeling all too well...... When I am concentrating and someone breaks my attention then I get mildly irked. Sounds selfish or something but that is just how I am.......... I try not to be selfish like that but I haven't as of yet been able to master that.

I have mild autism I definitely have my fixations & periodic interests that I get so into. I think it makes me really creative I see things other people don't. I'm not technical at all and am terrible at math & putting things together but am superb at art & language. And also reading people. I also think I have a touch of tourette's because sometimes I get this immense built-up energy inside and do like verbal noises like clicking or something I try to do it just alone so I don't annoy others but it's like something involuntary I have to do. Oddly enough when I smoke, I get more overall relief from stress and anxiety than any of the meds they tried me on. It's like nicotine centers me. SOme of the meds make me calmer, but the nicotine calms me and makes me happy and motivated, more so than even coffee. I love smoking just can't handle the smell and the annoyance of cigarettes anymore, thats why I'm hoping vaping will be the best of both worlds for me.

Yep, from what I understand about it, this is one of the main reasons why Asperger people are often involved in the sciences the arts. They can realize other things that normal people can't....... What really peeves me off is when normal folks assume that I think I am better than them. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Nobody can help how they were born no matter if they are normal or not. I will not condemn someone because they are normal but by the same token I hope they don't condemn me because I have certain mental gifts. While some Asperger people may feel superior to normal folks due to their mental abilities, I am not one of them. I would never puff myself up with pride and assume that I am superior just because I have gifted mental abilities that some folks may not possess.

Most ticcing people with Tourette's do is done in private or semi-private, not as much in public. There's at least some control over the tics, and for some people very little control and for some, lots of control. The tics are supposedly "non-voluntary", as opposed to "involuntary".

For me, there's a huge difference in private compared to when alone. When around only someone I'm very close to, it's more like when alone, but with a bit more of control. The word "control" here might be misleading, in that I don't have awareness of the control being applied. Like the tics, the control also seems non-voluntary.

There's a lot of grey area between compulsions and some tics, especially when there is more intent when ticcing. I have some simple motor tics like that, that I conciously feel a strong urge to do and I give in to that urge. For me, it's more useful for me to think of those ones as compulsions.

Tics are pretty common in people with autism.

I just feel like for me, having autism, my mind is wired differently than others. I do like socializing, but in small doses, and can get overwhelmed easily. Mine is more mild so I can talk to people and hold conversations, but I need my alone time. I do pretty good with small groups or one on one, just the big crowds and crowded places that I can't deal with.

I feel like for me, having autism, I just see the world differently. I see the details other people don't. Like, I always see patterns & stuff in random things. I like to make the analogy that I see like the Technicolor part of the Wizard of Oz, and everyone else sees drab b&w the Kansas part lol.

Hey dudes/dudettes, you all want to hear a really groovy thing that just happened to me? Good, because I am going to tell you anyway. :)

Today in the mail just arrived a brand new IPV4s Mod along with a brand new Triton tank and I never even ordered the stuff. Nope, totally free of charge...... I found out that my brother @Cognator who just joined this forum sent them to me as a gift!! He ordered them from Amazon brand new and had them shipped to me. Now what kind of a cool brother is that I tell you!? I haven't even taken the stuff out of the packages yet but I will after bit and when I fire the thing up I will put some photos on here. I am also going to make a post in the General conversations area about what my brother has done for me. I am way excited to blast away on the thing.

General we have a good sense of humor do we not?
I'm not sure who you are referring to by "we". I don't have Asperger's but I feel like I have a good sense of humor. So do all kinds of people, and even some of the animals I've lived with (mostly birds). Humor is great medicine, and that might be related to your observation. More of an indulgence than a knack, possibly.
