I think we all do that though. It's almost like a constant tug of war. People are kind and friendly and as humans we want to be close to people. . . but then there's always that fear that they'll realize you aren't who you say you are, or you don't fit there, or you're just faking it. . . so the options are that either they find out who you "really" are and they run off, or you run off to avoid being hurt. . . so you run off. . .

It takes some really good friends to put up with that tug-of-war game. . .

I don't mean to be a contrarian, but that's not uncommon among NTs, either. Maybe it's not as common or omnipresent for most, but I kind think feelings of isolation & loneliness are part of the universal human condition.

I think that actually the need/desire to fit is in a much stronger driving force with the nermals than we abbienermals. It is why they follow the pack in the entertainment industry, religion, etc. It is also what the marketing industry is based on.

Perhaps you're right. "Abbienermal," I like that.

I agree --- but I also think it is nowhere as CONSTANT or severe as it is with us.

Many nermals seem to keep searching for justification for the way they feel, believe and live.
    I just am....
Politics is a perfect example of this. Ever participated in a political board? It is just 2 choirs singing their songs with a bit of an off key third group in there.
I was always in the tiny off key group ;)

yeah, but I definitely think there is a a good reason that aspergers was commonly called "wrong planet syndrome"

Is this supposed to describe me, then?

I dunno? Very few humans actually desire to be totally alone and most of us respond to some degree to the marketing psych..
Me? I am just looking over the edge of the precipice wondering why they all jumped off.

No, I am not specifically describing anyone, especially you, so don't get all wounded knee on me :) We are just generalizing here... You are somewhat different because you know quite a bit about Aspie's and have them in your Family. As such, you know more about us than lots of folks. Not only that but you are an awesome , smart, and hot Woman (i can tell about the hot part).

You're right. I do tend to bristle at generalizations about categories of people, especially when they define limits or deficiencies. If it had been NTs voicing negative stereotypes about Aspies, I would have let you have it.

do keep in mind that we can sometimes be insulting and rude without an intentions to be that way. Just part of what we are?

Yeah well I for one am getting a tad bit sick of being misunderstood. "Generalizing" is part of the "big picture" and is how aspie people think....They generalize lots and are able to formulate theories upon generalizations. Enough said.

I get sick of apologizing for causing offense when I don't understand what I did to offend people. I'll make a joke and nobody gets it. Or I say something and don't realize that it was "improper". . . blah. . . then people get cranky about it and want me to apologize for something they're probably just being to sensitive about. grrrr.

I know the feeling all too well sister. The problem with it is that our hearts are in the right place but then we get slammed for it. It hurts us bad but NT's are just totally CLUELESS on what it is like.
