No - its a faulty battery. I couldn't help but laugh when I was reading your thread. Let me explain. I have a battery that does this but it is an njoy battery. The other day I was at the grocery store and I put my e-cig in my front jeans pocket. I was standing in line waiting to pay for my groceries and all of a sudden my leg started burning. Now imagine me jumping and trying to get that damn thing out of my pocket without looking stupid. The atomizer was hot as hell as I tried to unscrew the battery from it.

People were looking at me like what the hell are you doing...

So far I haven't had another incident, but am very leary of putting an e-cig back in my jeans. LOL

LMAO, does it really get that hot? mine has never been anything more than just a lil warm

Yep I agree with you. It's a bad battery. I had the same thing happen to me a week ago. The battery got stuck on and the thing smoked in my pocket and got really hot. It was while I was on break at work. Then afterwards the battery didn't work at all.

What I want to know is why the 5 second cut off didn't work.

What happened to my battery I'm sure was not the cleaning cycle.

i threw my cigar into the little compartment in my car door...and forgot there were two strong magnets in there too...

luckily i was only going a short distance...it was red hot and hissing and steaming, and its got a wooden type exterior,so that was pretty bad...i thought id lost it...but i saved it in the nick of time, and it reset ok...

just do go near anything magnetic with these things.

lithium cells are inherently unsafe.. last week i had four die on me while on charge in the car.. two seperate instances my son was looking after the multitude of rechargeable we are dependent on.. basically two cells went into self destruct mode.. got that hot they melted the charger plastic casing and leaked electrolyte into the charger..

i took the charger apart (on a spanish campsite) carefully cleaned out all traces of the electrolyte and put the charger back together.. the charger works perfectly and is still doing..

what went wrong.. heat i think.. the temp was mid thirties C and the charger was on the dash.. the batteries didnt like the heat.. they in esence could have set the car on fire.. they didnt but they could have.. the car was not parked this happened while driving along..

these were the cells for my e pipe.. these thing dont like heat.. they can self ignite and turn into an incendiary device..

do not leave your e cig on the dash of your car.. or your mobile phone. or anything with lithium cells in it..

it also isnt wise to carry them in your pocket unless u have to.. perhaps a tin case might be wise..

trog

ps.. two things are at work here..first the switch gets stuck on.. second the cell gets too hot and dies.. an e cig battery casng is pretty tough which will help keep the cooking cell in one peace.. if the battery is dead this is what has happened..

one other thing and this only applies to my cigarillos.. i dont know about other types.. there is some kind of diode in them.. switching the battery polarity turns the heater coil on all the time.. this cant happen by accident and i have no idea what the diode does but its just something i have noticed while messing with my cigarillos.. this diode failing could possibly explain the permanent on situation..

a diode by the way only passes current in one direction.. what one is doing in my cigarillos i cant imagine..

why not it was where it was done.. on the picnic table.. why is it necessary for u to ask...lol

trog

ps.. are u trying to get your post count up spider with all your one line posts.. ???

For the record it was not necessary for me to ask, and I'm not trying to get my post count up, I'm just really bored :p

If I try to write much more than that, my little Spider brain packs in like a dodgy e-cig battery.

I've seen a couple of solid state hard drives (Tosh's ultra-slim Portege models).

The impetus these days (for laptops anyway) is calculations per watt, as the biggest drain is from the moving parts.

That's why it's crazy to try watching DVDs on a laptop - you'll be lucky to get past the credits. Rip 'em to the hard drive, I always say. Still a moving part, but not nearly as bad (only carrying it's own weight, for a start). The solid state HDDs are pretty much memory cards, from what I've seen. Work is ongoing for transfer speeds.

Nobody's really bothered about speed anymore. Current laptops are more than able to handle complex spreadsheet or database calculations, and punt out spiffy presentations.

The big deal, much like our e-fags, is how long the thing will operate away from mains power. Holy Grail - 8 hours. Good for about 5 at the mo...

Emp

Coor bit like my Lex, My Lex is a fanless small sized PC running at 533 MHz, it has run many small Linux distros, I installed a laptop hard drive inside instead of the CF card (a small SSD) to run more sophisticated os, its latest task was running FreeDOS, its ran Debian like my Sun boxen, FreeBSD and at the moment I cannot think of a use, I can't wait to get a EEEPC desktop, have the laptop and its great!

Well... I do my best to represent my species in a good light - you don't see many spiders around here do you? I'm PR for the spider world.

In future I might try to group my legs together as I walk, it's less efficient but it might make me look less creepy :) (or more creepy).

emp.. i know i aint allowed to question the gods but that little 10440 unprotected battery janty use as a buffer in the usb lead should not be left plugged in when the device isnt in use.. i could possibly be wrong here but i dont think protected 10440 types are available.. u might not leave it plugged in all the time but many will..

trog

Thanks Trog

I don't leave it plugged in anymore (since an earlier post of yours, I think, from on here anyway). I think it gets hot through overuse. While I'm at the PC it's permanently hanging from my lip. The last 3 weeks or so I've been at home all day so it's had a pounding.
