some technology dont change that much.. think how long the light bulb has been around in its common guise.. and your PC is being held back by the desperate need for someone to re-invent the hard drive..

i dont see any easy replacement for the hot wire coil technology we are now using.. its like a mini electric kettle another piece of technology that aint changed much over a great many years..

some things move forward in leaps and bounds other things dont change much..

i update my PC every year on average.. its a bit of a hobby.. i dont need to only for bragging rights on PC forums.. he he

I've seen a couple of solid state hard drives (Tosh's ultra-slim Portege models).

The impetus these days (for laptops anyway) is calculations per watt, as the biggest drain is from the moving parts.

That's why it's crazy to try watching DVDs on a laptop - you'll be lucky to get past the credits. Rip 'em to the hard drive, I always say. Still a moving part, but not nearly as bad (only carrying it's own weight, for a start). The solid state HDDs are pretty much memory cards, from what I've seen. Work is ongoing for transfer speeds.

Nobody's really bothered about speed anymore. Current laptops are more than able to handle complex spreadsheet or database calculations, and punt out spiffy presentations.

The big deal, much like our e-fags, is how long the thing will operate away from mains power. Holy Grail - 8 hours. Good for about 5 at the mo...

Now that's a thing of beauty! I bet you were tempted when they started flogging off the old Routemasters...

i have two radeon 3870 cards emp in crossfire mode six months old and £140 each.. they draw around 120 watts each when playing a game.. my laptop runs for about ten minutes on its battery when playing a game.. some people are interested in "power" still..

the whole desktop PC draws around 400 watts when working hard.. the cpu is clocked at four gigahertz.. its part of my "fun".. he he

most of the time all i do on it is browse.. ??

Trog,

I like that fire engine - it looks like a tank. I would love to drive that and dare anyone to get in my way. :)

u need muscles of steel to turn the wheel.. folks love it but i dont use it much.. its a kinda cold war relic.. built to put out fires in a city when the russians dropped an A bomb on it.. part of british history really..

when they invented the H bomb the idea was a wee bit redundant.. there would be no city left.. he he

the russians never dropped the bomb of any sort which explains why its only got 2500 miles on the clock..

Sorry Trog I meant corporate laptops. I flay anybody alive if I find 'em with a game on one of 'my' machines...

All the killer kit tends to go into static desktops (usually dedicated to specific purposes - video conferencing and so on)

Come on guys and girls let's try and get back on topic to what my original post was all about. People seem to think that a burning atomiser is funny and trying to blame it on self-cleaning mode. And the batteries. Can you touch your atomiser when in self-cleaning mode while I certainly couldn't when this was happening to me. Let's please try and take this a little bit more seriously as we don't want governments banning this. If this happens none of us will be laughing any more will we.

corporate has different desires and needs.. it would have to be a pretty crappy game to run on a corporate machine or any standard desktop for that matter.. mine could be considered gaming machines.. they have to be able to play the latest and greatest.. not as my two year old laptop can.. two years is a long time in the PC industry.. its not much use away from mains power..

i do use an inverter off the car battery when i have to.. the 8 hours holy grail dosnt figure in my type of use.. but bloody battery life is one other technology that seems to have come to a stop.. the dreams of years ago just havnt come about.. nothing is likely to replace the ancient hard drive either in a cost effective form for some time..

I do not think a burning atomizer is funny - it has happened to me; however, my story relating to it was, after the fact. I still say it is a faulty battery or a bad connection with the atomizer - why it went to the on position and stayed there - I don't know. Mine happened to be an NJOY battery and it has no manual switch.

our governments will ban it any way ned.. there is nothing we can do about it.. portable computers have caught fire so have mobil phones.. they dont ban them cos they cant ban them.. our cigs will get banned for other reasons.. least i think they will.. i will find a way to keep using them whatever legal situation exists i need them..

in short there aint nothing to discus.. making a joke of it is all we can do..

fragile cheap switches.. they need to be easy to operate with little suck.. which makes them less kinda reliable.. liquid getting in the battery can also mess some of them up.. the 901 type are good in this respect no liquid gets into the battery its well sealed.. its a good design device.. the pressure switch is in the battery..

ps.. a manual switch wouldnt help.. the only safe answer is complete removal of the battery when not in use..

It definitely IS the battery (pressure switch as mentioned earlier in the thread). Have you contacted the supplier? If it's in the guarantee period you should have no problem getting a replacement. Out of all the sales I have made this has only been reported twice to me.

Does the battery take on a life of it's own and glow away to itself too when not connected to the atomiser?

Hope this helps

Sorry Ned

My Janty KB Classic gets too hot to hold at times, usually when it's on the USB cable. Never had a battery stuck in the on state. I believe some members have reported manual batteries in this stte, because the button gets depressed in their pockets

Emp

emp.. i know i aint allowed to question the gods but that little 10440 unprotected battery janty use as a buffer in the usb lead should not be left plugged in when the device isnt in use.. i could possibly be wrong here but i dont think protected 10440 types are available.. u might not leave it plugged in all the time but many will..

No it does not. The battery itself looks fine regarding contacting in the supplier I think my 30 days are up. And by time I have messed around with postage it's not worth the hassle. The whole point of this was the safety aspect of this being if it were to be in my pocket. Not so much the warranty of the product
but thank you for your good advice
