We are REALLY researching this trying to make the best informed decision but there are things we don't understand. We know the atomizer heats the juice and I am assuming those also do but how? And which is better and lasts longer. I am actually looking at the Torpedo "for hub's";) for Christmas because he wants something bigger than he can keep at home and take his ego-c to use at work or when he's out. What say you?

BTW blame the hubs for all these multiple posts because he keeps telling me to go ask another question.... lol

the torpedo is an atomizer with a cartridge on the end, kinda small capacity really.

there are two types of atomizers, one is direct drip, just a few drops at a time, then a few puffs, repeat. looks like this; Bridgeless 510 Atomizer, 2.0 Ohm
then there rebuildable atty like this : Phoenix style rebuildable atomizer
takes a little knowledge to rebuild but virtually usable forever.
they also make tank atomizers which hold more then a few drops for longer term usage.

A clearomizer is a tank with a coil that is fed by wicks like this : 1.6ml Vision eGo Clearomizer, version 2.0 for 510-eGo, Changeable Coil - 2.4©
or this http://www.gotvapes.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=151_201&products_id=1037

they come in sizes from 1 ml to 10 ml of fluid and higher.

the cartomizer is a tube filled with something like polyfill, virtually spill proof, just fill it and screw it on, they come from 1 to 3 ml usually. the coil has to absorb fluid from the surrounding poly fill so someone who vapes hard or alot will notice dry hits sometimes. as it takes a second to sresoak the coil/wick.

the best thing to use for long term vaping is a tank style clearomizer.
most people agree while not the largest storage, direct dripping has the best flavor.

Ok this is hub's question.... in the ego-c we have the atomizer goes out all the time like once a week - 2 weeks at $5 each but it's just down the road to buy a new 1 so not a huge deal. With the clearomizer if we went that route, what goes out in it that we would need to keep extra's on hand because we can't just go down the road to get another 1? Or is it the whole assembly?

the newer ones have replaceable heads usually 2 -3 bucks, and with proper care the head can last well into a month, if you go this route you will want to get a few and look up the info on how to care for /dry burn them to help them last longer. look at the first clearo link and you can see how they come apart.

the standard ego attys arent great, never used them but from what i read its just the nature of the beast, I have had 5 dollar drip attys last well over a month with cleaning/dryy burning them.

usually you pick up a few clearos/tank just to have spares.

EDIT: lol as a matter of fact im trying a sample right now and just realized this 6 dollar drip atty is almost 2 months old, so it comes down to build quality and caring for them

My favorite setup is 1.7ohm smoktek pre-punched (1 or 2 holes) cartos and a Phiniac tank. Ive tried the Vivi Novas and other clearomizers and they mute the taste too much for my liking. Outside of dripping this will give you the best flavor, dependability and consistency for your money IMO. Single coil cartos can be purchased from Smoktek.com for around 2 bucks each, less if you buy in bulk.

Pyrex is great because it wont crack or leech from certain juices and is damned near indestructible. Glass is non-reactive as well meaning all you will taste is juice and nothing more...no plastic or metallic taste that you can get from certain tanks.

Forgot to add that IBTanked sells pyrex tanks as well. I chose Phiniac for aesthetic reasons but Im told that these are a little cheaper and just as dependable.

if you could build the perfect e-cig what parts would you use? lol

perfect is very subjective, everyone will have a fav. personally, lol im probably the worst person to ask as im not very picky and think I get more joy from the act of vaping and trying all these different things and always want to try something different or new.
on my desk I have a xxxl carto i got last week (meh not impressed) a drip atty (or 3), a tank like the nova, and am actively searching for a glass tank rebuildable atty this week.

Just one bit of advice. Carto/Tank. I never thought I would own one but the flavor is fantastic. I got tanks with the same carto in them for about 2 weeks now. Kinda big but I use em every day and I have to wear a Uniform to work. You just got to buy the tank.
IBTanked - Get Tanked With Us! and then some cartos. ElectronicStix.Com : J-TANK PUNCHED 510 CARTOS.. Honest I didn't think I would like em but they are a really great juice system. If your interested go to the tank sub forum and you can check em all out. I've got 6 now and ordered 2 more last night. If you want something really special then go to Phiniac. Top of the line and all hand blown custom made. I got one to remind me everyday of why I'm vaping. Got my handle on it.
