We aren't using the Zmax yet because the batteries and charger haven't come yet so it's just sitting there waiting... He tried using it on his ego-c

As soon as I get my batteries I will be! lol
MadVapes must have gotten swamped with orders as I'm still waiting for mine a week later. I too ordered my batteries and charger elsewhere; they arrived and the batts are now are fully charged. I remain hopeful for tomorrow and hope you are now enjoying yours!

Any idea if your ZMax is a version 1 or 2? The first version had issues of delivering more voltage than what was set by the user. Owners figured it out fast and adjusted their set voltages appropriately. Owners of the version 2 claim that Smoktech fixed the problem.

The Zmax v1 goes to 7 on the menu.
The Zmax v2 goes to 8 on the menu.

Mad Vapes has been selling version 2 at around 80$ (that includes storewide 10% discount).

It's more than a "claim" tho - reviewers have tested the RMS function and it is very accurate.

Sennie,
When you get the Zmax, if you bought v2, you'll need to set the 8th menu to RMS - on the screen it looks like ANS. That's the one you want. That gives the accuracy.

Also - it isn't really suited to low resistances, so use cartomizers or atomizers, or vivi heads or whatever you use at around 2.4 ohms and above.

And never mind volts - try using the variable wattage, Po in menu 7. Set menu 7 to Po. Then in menu 1 or 2 you can adjust the watts and it will adjust the volts automatically for you. Just start low and click up until it tastes the best. It's easier than it sounds.

Awesome!! I went back and looked and yes it's the V2 SS. I wrote all that stuff down. I don't know what to get now that hubs hates that cartomizer. I am not surewhere to go with it now. UGH!!

Some suggestions - single coil cartomizers. 2.6- 2.8 ohms. You don't need dual coils.
Also - you could get a 3.5 ml Vision vivi nova and some extra 2.8 ohm vivi nova heads.
You could get a DCT tank - that's a tank that you put cartomizers in. Cartomizers for tanks have holes punched in them. Again - just get pre-punched single coil cartomizers and don't get low resistance - I'd suggest 2.4 ohms, 2.6 ohms or 2.8 ohms. For you guys these sort of tanks would probably have the biggest learning curve tho.

I've suggested those ohms because they are a good range to start with and use with something like this pv.
You can use any 510 accessories - so any atomizers you have will work on your Zmax as long as they aren't low resistance.

I hope that all makes sense. When you buy thjis stuff it should tell you what ohms they are.

When I got mine I played around with the menu first to get used to it. Then I set it like I described in my other post, and vaped.

Put the carto and tank on an empty juice bottle, drip liquid around the sides, not the middle tube, till you can see a drop forming, stop filling. Wait a few minutes then gently blow through the mouth end till no more gurgling sound. Now its primed and you can vape happy. Btw throw the burnt one away, once its burnt that flavor never goes away.

Hubs doesn't like this 1, says it gets got and he doesn't like that heat. Is the heat what causes the harshness?

I am confused, I thought DCT stood for dual coil tank which is what we got except at 1.6 ohm.

lower number ohm's = lower resistance? higher number ohm's = higher resistance? Correct?

Sorry if this is all jacked up, I'm trying to figure out this multi-quote reply. UGH.... it did NOT work like I thought it would... my quotes and questions are all up in the quote part.

I don't think it is actually burnt because I don't taste that at all. BUT regardless if it's burnt or not we don't like the dual coil tank. I like the flavor I get from it but HATE the torch on my throat feeling. Hubts doesn't like the heat and what he thinks is a burnt taste.

I got mine today, a day earlier than anticipated! Also got my batteries, although I already have some from my Provari and other 18650 mods. Sennie, you have the V2 - that is what mine is. Has the 8th menu. The manual does not explain the 8th menu at all - manual must be from the V1 (talk about saving money!). Make sure you check that is is in ANS (RMS); you'll want to use it that way.

Although most of the reviews I've seen on it say the 8th menu defaullts to NEA (mean), when I first brought it up it was set to ANS (RMS). Also was in the power out mode (Po - 7th menu).. Iv'e been trying various cartomizers and Genesi on it since I got it. Genesis models definitely nned higher power. I set the power to about 7.5 or 8.0 for them. Already popped a coil on one of them fiddling about. The cartomizers have been good for me anywhere from 5.0 - 6.0 Watts. Tried voltage mode just for kicks - nothing special about it; it performs as other VV devices perform.

I also did the spring mod - cut about a half of a coil off and straightened it a bit. Put the cut end into the end cap. May need a bit more off, but I took it slow - can't put any back if you take too much off the first time!

The slits cut into the tube didn't seem sharp to me, as reported by others. Maybe its because I work in industry and have tough hands, or they are finishing them better.

Lastly, I used some Noalox on the threads - the end cap was fairly smooth spinning, but now its like butter.

Hiya Sennie, I put your responses in red and my second responses in bue:

Hubs doesn't like this 1, says it gets got and he doesn't like that heat. Is the heat what causes the harshness?

Simple answer - turn the heat down. That's the value of a variable device. Put on a single coil 2.8ohm cartomizer. Start at 3 watts. Click up if that's too cool until you get it where you like it. So it shouldn't be too hot.

Also - you could get a 3.5 ml Vision vivi nova and some extra 2.8 ohm vivi nova heads.

The tank is the empty shell basically. They came out with dual coil cartomizers and the name DCT tank has stuck. You buy a DCT tank (with no cartomizers in it) and put a pre-punched single coil cartomizer in it. You can put holes in the cartomizers yourself but I'd leave that learning curve for now.

I've suggested those ohms because they are a good range to start with and use with something like this pv.

Yes. The lower resistance is really for being able to get heat with less power. You don't need this with a Zmax. Too much heat will be generated and it cuts off at 1.2 ohms anyway.

Zmax instruction manual here: http://www.madvapes.com/media/manuals/Zmax-manual.pdf

I printed off a copy for myself. Makes it easier.

Another tip, and this goes for any pv, not just the Zmax 2 - when you put on a carto, clearo, atty, or tank - don't screw it down really tight. Screw it on until it makes contct with the pv centre pin and then give it a quarter of a turn. Jamming things down too tight can cause a short circuit.

Mine finally arrived today along with a new Phiniac tank, and vaping heaven ensued.

I am quite impressed with the build quality of the Zmax; mine is of gunmetal finish that looks incredible and is quite beautifully machined. Form and function. Vaping at 9-10W produces dense clouds of warm vapor. Constant watts is the clearly the next wave as results are nearly identical even when switching between the tank (Boge LR), vivi nova @ 2.8 ohm, and assorted clearos with varying resistances; all work great with no settings adjustments, no calculator or ohms law table needed. Perfect!

Hope your batteries arrive soon but the wait will be worth it. Enjoy!

Forgot to mention for those considering the Zmax that Kanger T3s clearos do not fit and there are no true (outside) eGo threads so only 510 connectors work. An adapter (510 to eGo) would fix this but appearance would suffer a bit. I know that somewhere I saw the Kangers with a 510 connection..... guess I'll have to start surfing the vendor websites (but better hide my wallet first).

dsy5 I am soooo jealous!! I HOPE to get the batteries tomorrow or is it today already? I will definatly set it as you said. I have it written down on the instructions I had to print out because the ones that came in the box were insanely small!! Now I just need to order something to vape out of!! lol

that makes a lot more sense than it was for sure!!! Thank you!! I just wish I'd have ordered the correct thing to begin with because I am not going to be able to use this new toy until sometimes next week!! UGH!! lol
