Also many have mentioned what he had was a "sample". Well a sample in manufacturing circles is what is being sold. For example if you walked into a vape shop and they asked you to sample a juice they were selling and than decided to buy it and tasted way off from what you sampled; are you going to say well "you should have done your research?". A prototype on the other hand is something that is still in development and not something that should ever be submitted for a public facing product review. Why they would send him that unit or any clone for review is beyond me...

Errrr, you don't know anything about manufacturing if you think a sample is what is being sold.

In manufacturing you have a variety of samples. You have your Engineering Samples, your Qualification Samples, your Pre-production samples and your Production Samples.

In this case Rip had what is called a Pre-production Sample (PPS) which comes from a series of test units that are produced to ensure the design actually works and the manufacturing process produces acceptable yields before putting the chips and boards into final production.

And BTW, a "prototype" is a pre-production mockup. To covert a prototype into a production model you have to go through the full engineering, quality control, pre-production testing, and full production stages, taking samples of the product at every step of the way for testing.

If you don't take samples of what you're going to produce for testing how do you know you do not have a defect? Are you just going to hope that you got everything right the first try without any testing at all? You've got to test something, and that something is called.......

A Sample.

The role of pre-production samples - QualityInspection.org

I will give you that. But it is still beyond me why any company would send him a sample of a clone that is not ready for prime time.

So how are the mods from Wetvapes? Has anyone received from them? I just broke down and ordered silver from them. They are showing back in stock today. Still waiting on green from 101 round 3, but I might cancel. I dunno.
I picked mine up from one of there shops yesterday. It's working great so far. No logos anywhere or hana modz on the stickers on the inside. Buttons seen solid. I'm no expert so I can't really go into detail. But the quality for the money I paid was well worth it.

I just ordered one also. Says will ship out today. That's incredible really. They must not have taken any pre orders. I have a red and blue on order from elev8, not sure when I will get those.

For the same reason video game reviewers get copies of games early and why car reviewers get to drive pre-production test mules. Publicity.

It doesn't matter that everything is not quite right, it should be understood with pre-production samples that there may be some minor problems or changes before the final product is released, but manufacturers in many industries allow reviewers access to pre-production samples in order to generate publicity and hopefully sales.

Consider this.... how many hits does that Rip Tripper video have? How much would a television commercial cost? I'll bet it's more than the cost of the Hana clone they sent to Rip..

I ordered a Silver when I noticed the price drop on Saturday. I'm hoping it will ship today. Still no word though.

I still have a Black waiting from Elev8, and an Orange from Vapor Tek.

Hopefully they'll all arrive sooner than later.

UPDATE: Before I even finished posting this I received a call back from Wet Vapes (I called with no answer) and they confirmed that it will indeed ship out today.

Excellent. I should have mine by week's end.

There's no problem with reviewing a pre-production unit if you acknowledge that it's a pre-production unit.

If a car reviewer got a pre-production model and knew that they there is a difference between the tires shipped with the review model and the tires shipped with the production model, yet complains about the tires without announcing that the tires on the production model are the different, then he's a jack-( | ) reviewer.

RT openly admits that he spoke with the owner of Illvapes AFTER they had been sued, which means the information needed to confirm that A) the chips no longer read "Hana Modz" when turned on (and contain no trace of the Hana name anywhere on the device), and B) that his unit had been used BEFORE he received it for review was available for him to use which could be a reason why his unit was scratched up some, and he willingly chose not to use that information.

That's bad representation.

When you have information that's very pertinent to the discussion, omitting it is intellectual dishonesty and says more about the reviewer than the item reviewed.

So, has anyone drained their battery completely in this mod? I never. Got a check battery message just stopped firing

I have done it twice. The first time "check battery"only flashed on the screen for a second. I just got lucky to see it. The second time it stayed on the screen. Not much for repeatability.

Think that's a good thing...what battery voltage did it stop firing at?

Before it stopped firing after getting the "check battery" did you notice any "pulsing while trying to vape"?

I totally agree with you there.

I will also say that I never entirely trust any review where the reviewer is given products for free. Free gifts is a good reason to give good reviews.

You know the content of that discussion with the vendor? You know that the vendor told him that the logo and scratch issue would not be in the final version? You are making a lot of assumptions on a call I assume you were not witness to or have fact to back up. Also before you say that he should have asked about it. Unless RT knew for a fact that it was not a production sample or a actual product then as a reviewer he has no obligation to have that conversation. He just has to review it as is.
