For those suppliers that haven't been following the recents events unfolding in Australia I would like to make a big suggestion or rather a request on behalf of a lot of us.

Although many of you have included the words "smoke," "smoking," or "cigarette" in you URLs, I would like to ask that you refrain from using them in/on your actual website. I understand that these words work as a marketing tool to draw in new prospective customers but they will inevitably hurt the future of your business.

Dr. Murray Laugesen of Health NZ, probably our most respected professional opinion on the future of our devices, has offered the term "Electronic Nicotine Inhaler" to use instead of e-cigarette.

I feel, like many of us do, that to distance ourselves as far as possible from the smoker crowd is the best chance of our survival against future bans.

I welcome all comments, questions and suggestions to keep this thread bumped up until every supplier has read it.

Leaving all those nasty words out of the vocabulary would be like a child 'hiding' under a blanket in the middle of the room and would not make any difference to the government witchunters, although it is a worthy sentiment to move the focus away from dirty smokey cigs. 'Electronic Nicotine Inhaler' has a major flaw, NICOTINE, which is the main problem right now with scare stories of unlicensed toxic chemicals. Ecigs will not escape the law and will be forced to comply by becoming licensed, which is where the tobacco giants and companies like Fizer will step in and wipe out the small suppliers, it's inevitable. If we're lucky we might see a few suppliers surviving in the way that micro breweries do in the UK but the whole concept and business is about to be taken over by the big boys.

i'm really not concerned with escaping the law or with nicotine inhalers becoming regulated. i believe that's a best case scenario.

what i'd like to avoid is having the anti-smoking crowd come crashing down on us and getting these things banned.

you'd be surprised what changes in terminology do for businesses - it means a world of difference to the right people. it's not hiding what we're doing. as you said, NICOTINE is in the name. i think we're being honest in not linking ourselves to cigarette smoking because they are two completely different delivery system for nicotine.

Hale - I'm not trying to knock your opinion. I'm simply trying to back up what I've said and give everyone an alternative suggestion.

I agree with you Foxy but also agree with Letzin that Nicotine is another danger word, not to mention that no nic has a fair following too in our community and that is a benefit we want to emphasize. I also fear that a rose by any other name is still a rose in the hard core anti smoker campaigner's eyes. However, I agree that a name change would be beneficial! Perhaps "E Vapor Device" ?

When it comes to personal interaction with members o't'public asking about my e-cig (oops, we all seem to call 'em that!!) I have developed a stock answer:

"I have given up smoking tobacco but not nicotine, I've gone electronic. This is a vapouriser, nothing is burning and there's no tobacco in it."

If they're interested I'll take it to pieces to show them how it works and then go on to answer any other questions they may have, but that's where I start from every time. All other members please feel free to pinch the above as appropriate. :thumb:

Sadly, I'm beginning to wonder if our fondness for lots of vapour may work against us - with three of us vaping away in the pub on New Year's eve, the vapour was definitely evident floating around the area where we were sitting, looking suspiciously like smoke. Another of our companions noticed the smell - didn't dislike it, but she was detecting the vanilla in my mix and I hadn't mentioned what the flavour was. Even worse, she later announced she could 'taste' it and it was bitter - not so sure about that one!

Vape on all - carefully!

As most suppliers on this forum trade via the internet exchanging the words "electronic cigarette" for "electronic nicotine inhaler" would kill our business over night, mainly for the reason that when someone searchs on google for "electronic cigarette" they not going to find our business, unless they start searching for the term "electronic nicotine inhaler", and that I am not prepared to do yet, as it has taken alot of money and SEO work and link building to rank on page one of Google for the search term "electronic cigarette" till 80% of all people start refering to the electronic cigarette as the "electronic nicotine inhaler", the tem electronic cigarette will be used on most websites for SEO purposes, however when trading out of hand I will gladly refer to it as the electronic nicotine inhaler...no problem

I think I may have jumped the gun a bit too soon. I had believe some of you are right in that using the word Nicotine isn't all inclusive seeing that many members have switched to vaping only PG or VG. I like the suggestion of "E Vaping Device" or something similiar.

Stephen, I completely understand that....I wasn't expecting suppliers to totally revamp their sites and I think that your use of the word in personal exchanges is definitely a start. I'm not sure of the climate your dealing with where you are so I can't say a ban is coming soon but the sooner we distance ourselves from smoking, the better. Thanks for you input.
