I've solved my wicking 'issue'.

Since I got this tank, I've been trying to get it to vape in a specific manner - ie single coil, lots of vapour and ofcourse good flavour.

I started out with single a 3.0mm ID coil, and took out the airflow restrictor. The vapour it produced was just too lean for me.
So I thought maybe a bigger coil (3.5mm) would do the trick. This configuration works for the first few pulls on a freshly filled tank, then again the vapour production would just wither down. Found it to be pretty unsatisfying. I kept on having to open the top fill mid tank, watch it bubble away as the liquid would fully saturate the wick, close it up again then carry on vaping. Again for the next 2 or 3 hits, great vapour/flavour, then it'd whither away again [emoji35]

I figured that the issue was down to me not wicking the thing properly. So I tried everything I could think of or that I read about to improve the wicking. But the wick just wouldn't absorb enough juice for that sweet spot hit.

Today I conceded and thought I'd give the dual deck a try instead.

And now I conclude (from my experience) .. This tank in single coil mode is just not designed to chuck dense clouds with no air restriction. Ie for me, single coil mode is more matched to restricted airflow / MTL mode.

For unrestricted mode, it's got to be the dual coil deck. Kinda makes sense though, the dual coil deck provides for a significantly increased amount of wicking hole area (4 as opposed to 2)...

Now I'm loving it!

I guess it turns out that there isn't any issue with my tank, which for the past few days I though there was. Rather I was trying to get it to do something that it's not designed to do!

I haven't yet tried a single coil with the air restrictor - wondering how that would compare with my good ol serpent mini...

So, I'm still on the hunt for a single coil, cloud chucking, flavour machine. That'll have to wait a few weeks though - I've got an Obs engine on order...
I'm using the single coil deck with a 3mm I think or 3.5mm Clapton & it wicks & chucks just fine, so I don't know if it's the wicking or differences in what we like.

There are lot of better dual-coils tank out there in the market, e.g. the Obs enine. I don't think it is a good idea for anyone to buy this Merlin mini for its dual-coils
deck.
In my case, even under the single-coil mode, I am tire of frequent refill because of its small capacity tank. I am waiting for my Ijoy Exo to arrive (which comes with extended tank) and will shelve this Merlin mini by then.
I like the Merlin Mini but yeah even in single coil mod I've gotta refill a lot  wish Augvape would've made the extension kit but they told me they won't :(

I can't speak for "cloud chucking", but for me, with NO restrictor, and the airflow only open a little, I get a ton of vapor. I was thinking of trying the large resistor just so I could open the airflow ring a bit. This tank, so far is my BEST single coil tank. Goes to show you, tastes are different.

OOPS, I thought I was in the Merlin MINI thread, but my observations are about the same. I like all the improvements of the Mini over the larger sized version. I don't mind the smaller eliquid tank, as I change flavors a lot. My regular sized Merlins have been shelved, for the Mini.

What single coil tank are you referring to?

Yeah I'm more of a no restrictor, full open airflow control type of vaper.

I'm hoping it's differences in what we like cos I just can't understand where I would otherwise have been going wrong with the wicking.

I'll give it another go at a later time once the Obs engine has arrived, but for now I'm enjoying a pretty good vape on the dual deck.

Yeah and tbh I find it quite easy and quick to fill this tank esp using unicorn bottles.

I also don't mind cos I do change flavours frequently.
Yep. I've been running the dual deck lately. Before recently I used it once. Decided to put dual parallel coils in and throw it on a mech. Beautiful vape.

I'm not surprised, was just hoping that the rumors of an extension was true. They just recently decided not to & roll out the Merlin 22.

Not saying they will release an extension, but If I remember correctly they said the same thing about a nano kit for the Merlin.

It's a 2ml mini tank with a big deck. Idk how people are surprised about having to refill frequently.

Hence the revolutionary TOP FILL ports! I'd rather refill more often on a tank that I like, them have a ton of juice in a tank I DISLIKE!

I'll do a wait and see on these. Since currently the Merlin Mini is overall my "unbeatable" single coil RTA, I will always give Augvape a close look. I bought two Ammit RTA's, and they have not surpassed the Mini's, of which I have 3, and am on the trigger for the gold version.

Yeah, I haven't seen a deck pic yet. Afaik they are still in the mock up prototype phase.

Merlin Mini wicks a bit differently then the Merlin, it does not need as much material. I do big bushy floating wick on the Merlin, Mini seems to prefer less, and in the cup wicking.

As for coil size, my suggestion is if you run the airflow pretty tight try a 2.5 mm, if your more open on the airflow run a 3, or even 3.5, I run my airflow wide open, and get noticeably better flavor with a 3mm over 2.5 mm, 3.5 changed the flavor slightly, and depending on juice can be better. The 3.5 seems to bring a little brighter flavor to fruits, but suffers slightly with bakery/desserts. I've run a 2.5 in mine, and with open airflow it did not produce flavor as well as the larger, but with a tighter airflow it did much better.

Since I like open air I stick with a 3mm most of the time, and is probably the most versatile build for me.
Are you running just regular round wire kanthal builds or more specialized coils like aliens or fused Clapton?

I just got the gold version, because it's all that was left in stock. I thought I wouldn't like it in terms of aesthetics, but I was very pleasantly surprised to see how great it actually looked in person, not gaudy or tacky, but in fact quite refined and striking. Definitely my new number one slot atty, easily surpassing the rest of my embarrassingly and unnecessarily extensive collection of attys.

I have this same problem, if I use less wick it floods a bit upon filling and creating the seal. but then I get a few good "toots" and the vape loses it's saturation.

If I use medium amount of cotton I get less or no flooding , and same issue.

If I use dense cotton no flooding on fill, and semi dry after a few hits.

It's not that I ever get a DRY hit from it. it's just not a saturated vape like I enjoy.

I'll try the dual coil deck, but I too was wanting a good single coil RTA
