The truth is without privileged information that we don't have available to us, there is no definitive way of being sure if you have authentic or fakes.
All you can do is buy from an reputable dealer in the first place. If you feel like you may have been duped, dispose of the batteries safely as they are not actually worth that much.
 
Well i have heard this directly from illumn and my local vape b&m who had a re-stock of authentic vtc4's back in august for about one day before selling out. Sony is running production of vtc5's out of a new facility, but it is going really slow. This shows with the absence of their batteries on the market. The vtc4's are coming even slower because of the new 5 technology.

edit: I actually just checked the illumn website and they do have vtc5's for sale right now.
