Before I found Alien Visions, my e-cig experience was spotty at best. I wasn't able to completely quit smoking until finding AVE's wonderful juices.

Today I got the results back from my life insurance exam--I was required to wait 1 year after quitting smoking before applying again as a non-smoker. Negative for nicotine!! For the same amount of coverage, I doubled the coverage period from 10 to 20 years and my premium was cut in HALF. Awesome.

I know the debate has raged on to whether or not we are getting nicotine from our e-juices, but here's what happened to me. I have vaped 18mg AVE tobacco juices since quitting, and for the last few months I stepped down to 6mg in anticipation of the insurance exam. I also periodically vaped some of AVE's non-tobacco juices (Hype, Christy's Capp, Sweet Tart) but for the most part vaped the 6mg stuff. And still negative on nicotine.

Thanks Ben, Christy, and all of AVE. You guys rock.

Wow really? So you have been vaping 6 mg and tested negative for nic? I didnt know that was possible!

Yeah, I was surprised. A few months ago I had ordered some 0 nic juice from another highly regarded supplier and I just couldn't bring myself to vape it. So I went back to the 6mg Boba's, Gorilla Juice, Havana, 555, and Flue Cured. I did vape some 0 nic AVE juice, as I said, but the vast majority of the time I used the 6mg stuff. I had pretty much resigned myself to testing positive for nicotine, but my results say negative for nicotine. Plus the insurance company sent me the papers for my new plan as a "non-tobacco user", so at least for me there was no nic in my system.

Congrats!!
I've often thought myself since i only vape 6mg, i should just quit.

No nic in your blood stream on insurance testing? Were you vaping on the way to the test or no?

Now I'm gonna have to do some half life studies & stuff, but you pretty much confirmed i don't have nic in my system...... & if that's the case, i really don't need it.

Let the research begin

Toothboy must of got lucky or the lab must of screwed up because if a proper nicotine test was done for cotinine levels, a 6mg juice will not pass. I was part of many clinical trials (non tobacco related), vaped my usual 6mg Boba's the day before the trial, got kicked out twice for high levels of cotinine and can prove it with paper work from the lab analysis.

A urine test is much more accurate than a blood test(both can detect up to 4 days prior use) and if an insurance company really wants to get technical, a hair analysis would show cotinine for up to 90 days after your last use.

Well, hate to say it, but Keith was right--the insurance company screwed up. I just got an email from my insurance agent that said that I did indeed test positive for nicotine in the test. Problem is, the insurance company already issued the policy as a non-tobacco user (dumbasses) so now I've got a phone meeting tomorrow with my insurance agent to see what the hell to do next. I hate insurance companies.

The best thing that you could do depending on how many ng/ml they found in your blood or urine is to either tell them that you frequently play poker in a room where everyone smokes or to admit that you have not smoked a cigarette in years but use electronic cigs instead. Since I do not know when your actual last cig was (in case they take a hair sample), I cannot really be of much help.

If they allow you to retake the test and you do not use any nicotine products for a minimum of 48 hours, you have a decent chance of passing. Granted you will have to drink a lot of water or herbal tea so your liver can process the nicotine, turn it into cotinine then pass it through the kidneys in your urine but suffering for a few days is much better than paying double for your policy.

Good luck and let us know what happened.

Keith,

Last cigarette smoked was Aug 15, 2010.

Does a hair sample show simple nicotine use or is there any distinguishing factors between nicotine from cigs or nicotine from other sources?

Well, since you were already found to have been using nicotine, that sworn document that you signed swearing that you have not used any type of nicotine or tobacco products may be used against you and may find yourself being scrutinized by other companies. If your insurance company goes that extra mile and processes your hair, they should not find any of the other trace chemicals(arsenic, benzene, cadmium etc.) that are found in tobacco so you might be good. Hopefully your hair from last August is not still on your head and has grown and been cut.

Remember that the insurance company wants your business, they just don't want to take any people who are in that "high risk" category. Depending on how you answer the question on how the nicotine got into your system, that may determine the type of retesting they will do. Please don't ask me how I know, I just do and am trying to help you out.:) If you suspect that a retest will be done asap, stop using liquid with nicotine in it, drink lots of fluids like water and non caffeinated herbal teas, exercise whenever possible, stay away from alcohol, fatty foods, caffeine and anything else that makes your liver work hard until you take that test. If you can stall them for 3 days, you should be able to pass.

On Ins. company stuff what if you quit and your wearing a nice. patch or chewing nice gum does that knock you out of the ball park for Ins

For insurance companies, the general question they ask is "have you used any tobacco products within the past 2 years and when was the last time" Wearing a patch or chewing nicotine gum may be interpreted as "you still smoke or might start again" so further testing or higher premiums will be applied. Eggplants, green tomatoes and a few other vegetables also contain nicotine but I doubt the average person can eat enough of those foods to have the levels of cotinine in their systems increase to that of a smoker/vaper.

Remember that once you fail an insurance health test, it will be on your record for X amount of time and you will have to state that fact every time you apply. If you don't and they will eventually find out, your benefits will be null and void. Best thing to do is to stop vaping a few days prior or switch to zero nic, if it were me, I would do this 5 days in advance just to be 100% sure.:)

From what i've been told is that I need to switch to 0mg 2 weeks prior to an insurance test.
At first (when i vaped 24mg) I freaked out........
Now, i'm not so worried.

What I am more worried about is people taking oxy for fibro.
Yeah, i'm a healthcare professional on the front lines every single day.
