So some of the last of my DIY shipments arrived earlier this week, and as such I've been playing around in the garden of vapor trying out individual flavours and attempting my own blends. IT's been a lot of fun so far dreaming up flavour ideas from the flavours I currently have in my arsenal, and so far it's been working out pretty well. Here's what I've done so far, and the results that followed (all flavourings are 10% of the overall liquid volume):

Straight up Spearmint
I like spearmint, but only the fresh leaf flavour, not the candy or mouthwash type flavour, so I was pleased to note that FlavourArt's spearmint was just that. In a 10ml bottle I mixed:

8ml 70/30 PG/VG mix
1.2ml 100mg/ml nicotine (PG base)
10% Spearmint (FA) (1ml)

Quite delicious. Not exactly rocket surgery, but it worked, and it worked really well.

Oba Oba
I got this flavour on a lark, one of several, because I wasn't sure what to make of them. I really like this one though. It's a very subtle sweet flavour, kind of a honeysuckle nectar blended with angel food cake. Mild, delicate, a great all day vape, but the TH I get out of it at 12mg is a bit muted. 10ml bottle:

8ml 70/30 PG/VG mix
1.2ml 100mg/ml nicotine (PG base)
10% Oba OBa (FA) (1ml)

So then I started to get a little more creative and start blending. First thing I wanted to try was a nice chocolate mint, so I grabbed a 10ml bottle:

Chocolate Mint
8ml 70/30 PG/VG mix
1.2ml 100mg/ml nicotine (PG base)
20% Peppermint (FA) (0.2ml)
80% Chocolate (FA) (0.8ml)

This ended up absolutely perfect. Just the right ratio of the two flavours, and despite FA's Chocolate being kind of artificial tasting on its own, it really pairs perfectly with peppermint to make a semisweet chocolate to envelop the peppermint.

Then it was time to try a caramel coffee vape, so in a 10ml bottle:

Caramel Coffee (but mostly coffee)
8ml 70/30 PG/VG mix
1.2ml 100mg/ml nicotine (PG base)
60% Coffee (PA) (0.6ml)
40% Caramel (FA) (0.4ml)

Perfumer's Apprentice Coffee (not Coffee Clear) contains real coffee essence, so its really strong and readily overpowered the caramel to the extent that what I ended up with was a sweetened coffee that still had a bitter edge. I added 5 drops of FA's MTS vape Wizard, which did mellow it out a bit, but didn't do much to rescue the caramel. I'm thinking my next batch I'll have to flip the ratios.

Now I wanted a cookie recipe, so I opted for something somewhat daring: Cinnamon coconut cookie. Once again, in a 10ml bottle:

Cinnamon Coconut Cookie (sorta)
8ml 70/30 PG/VG mix
1.2ml 100mg/ml nicotine (PG base)
40% Cookie (FA) (0.4ml)
40% Coconut (FA) (0.4ml)
20% Cinnamon Ceylon (FA) (0.2ml)

This one didn't work out as well because I misjudged the relative strengths of each of the flavours. Cookie and Coconut are both stronger than I thought they would be and tended to overpower the cinnamon. The Cookie flavour itself has one particular strong note of a flavour I can't quite put my finger on, so I think I'm going to have to tone that down to a background level. I'm thinking next time, 30% cookie, 30% coconut and 40% cinnamon might work better.

Finally I decided to try something else with chocolate and decided to go for a Toblerone bar flavour, so once again in a 10ml bottle:

Toblerone Bar
8ml 70/30 PG/VG mix
1.2ml 100mg/ml nicotine (PG base)
30% Chocolate (FA) (0.3ml)
30% Honey (FA) (0.3ml)
40% Torrone (FA) (0.4ml)

I figured the chocolate was obviously, and the honey and torrone would give that honey nougat flavour present in Toblerone bars. (Torrone is supposed to be a honey almond nougat flavour on its own, but it's mostly just a straight nougat flavour, hence the extra honey.) Surprisingly this worked pretty well. The chocolate tastes more artificial in this mix, and though I expect little difference I may try PA's chocolate in the next batch. But even so the results were pretty good.

So, the adventure continues, and I've got a ton more flavours to try out, so we'll see how that goes. I'll post if/when I come up with any other flavours that work well.

I had to get a little ambitious tonight, as I came up with a potential recipe list to print out and let her look at. She picked Apple Pie with Whipped Cream. I thought I had an Apple Pie flavour, but it turns out I only had straight Apple. Doh! And I had no pie crust flavour.

Okay. Stand back. I'm going to do SCIENCE!

Took the 12mg nic base I made (70PG/30VG) and mixed it with my no-nic 70/30 base to make the 6mg she prefers. Now the flavouring. I was going to have to get creative and ambitious. Here's what I came up with for a 10ml bottle, 15% total flavour concentration:

0.5ml FA Apple
0.4ml FA Cinnamon Ceylon
0.4ml FA Whipped Cream
0.1ml FA Cookie
0.1ml FA Butter

My thinking was that the small amounts of cookie and butter could kinda-sorta pass for a buttery pie crust. Or maybe apple pie with a cookie crumble base.

The end product? Not bad. Not bad at all! You get just a hint of the butter and the cookie, but the majority is an apple-cinnamon-sweet-cream kind of flavour, which is really nice. I'm thinking maybe I should have added a bit of FA Caramel for a bit of extra sweetness. Or not. It could probably go either way.

Still, not bad for a first attempt at a more complex recipe.
