Ok well I think I have found my post mabey someone can help me . I have a wide based herniated disk (L5-S1), and also arthritis (L4-L5-S1). I have been in pain for over a year, the doctor has me on several meds including:Relafen,Skelaxin,Percocet, and darvocet.Little has helped so far and next week they want to do injections in my spine, so my question is has anyone had the injection do they help or is it a waste of money because I don't have insurance, because I could not carry the trays at dennys so I no longer have a job. Thanks guys I fear I have been falling into a deeper depression and have found little online about this saying only 50-50 chance it will help.

Hi Nicfix,

I Have Similar But Far Worse, I Had (2) Motorcycle Accidents & (1) Pedestrian Accident (yes hit by a car) and Other Incidents & Accidents.

My Opinion & Some Info For Back & Neck Pain:

The Injections Are Hit Or Miss! I Have Had Over A Dozen Of Them. I have to Over A Dozen Specialist, No Luck.

If You Going To Pay For That, I Would Rather Put The Money Towards A Home Inverter, Takes A Little to get use to hanging like a bat a few minutes a day, but it works. Check it Out, They Have Some At Amazon with Free Delivery. :D

Also Go To Losethebackpain.com They Have A Lot of Free Tips & Video's That Work and Their Back Pain Program for $100.00 Works, But you must follow it to the book and do it, once u get lazy nothing will work. :D

I would bet the back pain is more from pg than nicotine. Have you tried vg? Still okay to quit if that's what you wanna do. But pg made all my muscles hurt, especially my back and legs, and vg doesn't. Same nicotine level of both.

Crap! Now you tell me. I may try some vg. I find that vaping with zero nic juice does help me relax, but not as much as nic does. I think it's the deep breathing that does it. And the "smoking" activity. But, I would like to try the low nic vg and see how my back pain is. Right now I have a rather acute condition in my lower back, going for some tests soon. But, when vaping with nic juice, my entire lower back was extremely painful. I thought it was from the nic constricting the blood vessels. Maybe not, huh?

Well guy's...I think there may be some truth to all this. I just did a little reading on the subject because I to have severe lower back pain. There are several websites dedicated to talking about nicotine (Not just from smoking...but nicotine by itself) and it's cause of back pain.
I have noticed for several weeks now that my back has hurt much worse and much more constant than ever before. And it just so happens that I have been smoking...um I mean vaping 36mg juice for about the same time.
Well, I guess I better look in to getting a wheelchair cause I'm not giving up my 36!
Anyone know where I can get one of those cool chairs that have the straw to blow through to go forward? I bet I could mod that .....!

I have a inversion table. I use it every day but it only helps for a little while should I do it more than once a day?

I have a inversion table. I use it every day but it only helps for a little while should I do it more than once a day?

Depends How bad you are and How much pain you have. do u want to be pain free?

Quick story, My friend is a Pastor (74 years old) at one of the local churches, he was in a wheel chair for 2 years due to back pain, he had done & did all the PT, Trigger Injections, Meds, etc. for a few years... No help! His son asked his doctor if he could do the inversion therapy at home and the Doctor said yes but probably wont help! Well his son got him on the inverter (the tweeter on TV) , 3 times a day for 2 to 5 minutes a time. Well the wheel chair is now collecting dust.

It will also make a difference which inverter you have and if you got a program / DVD with it to do exercises on it, not just only hang!

The one I have (I went through 3 of them before I bought the right one) I will post the link:

Its The :Ironman ATIS 1000 AB Training System Inversion Therapy Table
from Amazon $205.00 Free S&H.

Why This One? You Can Easily Lock Positions with 1 hand! The Feet Locking Device Is better (Very Important)! Its very sturdy, well built, folds up but is still heavy.

This Inversion Table Helps relive & strengthen your back & whole body, reduce stress and gives you more energy!

You should be doing it enough Inversion Therapy so your comfortable with it, if your new, 3 times a day for just a few minutes at a new time, don't make yourself sick on it, get up very slowly to horizontal, stay there until your comfortable without dizziness, then finally all the way down back to normal. When inverted due some light stretching & turning. If your real bad you will feel funny later, cuz your getting your muscles straightened & unlocked. You then gotta get up to to about 7 to 10 minutes a day.

Then once you reach that level (2 weeks max), you started to do reverse partial sit ups, its not hard as you think, start off with little crunches to get started and work your way up. In about 2 weeks you should really be feeling a lot of relief! The main problem is partly your center, muscle weakness and / or muscle imbalance, like from not sitting properly, u really have to watch your posture always! You have to build your center muscle / stomach strength which will allow your to support & strengthen your spine! When your stomach muscle weakens you start to lose your posture, then throwing your whole spine out of whack, neck aches, tingling & numbness in your hands & feet, sciatica, shoulder pain, etc!

If you have High BP or Take The Meds For it just go slower, the blood will rush to your head, just be sure to get up slower and longer (I have High BP & take the meds as well).

This Atis Ab Trainer Inverterdid not come with any programs or DVD's, I got free How To's off the web, ie losethebackpain.com free vids & instructions.

The Inversion Therapy Works great, no meds, no shots, no surgery, no BS. The doctors & PT people don't want u to know about this! It has actually been used for centuries, u can read about it again @ Back Pain? Sciatica? Get LASTING Relief. Free Videos But u have to use it!

If You have a back problem u must check out Back Pain? Sciatica? Get LASTING Relief. Free Videos , I never spent a dime their, plenty of free info and even some more free exercises that work.

The Docs & Specialist here wanted to take a knife to me several times over the years for my messed up back & neck, I said No Way, No Surgery for me!

Again I Like This One Cuz You Can Lock & Unlock Positions Fast & Easy! Its Also half The Price Of the Teeter Hang Ups.

If u don't use it you will lose it! :)

Good luck :D

Well it depends... I knew an old lady who had pain medication injected into her spine and she felt a lot better... and I had a friend who had corticosteroids injected in her spine and it did nothing for her and cost her hundreds and hundreds of dollars. They put me on all the above mentioned meds, and after trying a couple of them... I stopped. Muscle relaxers relax muscle... not bone. If you have arthritis, muscle relaxers will do nothing but make you tired. Opiate based pain medication will do the same thing.. but dull the pain. I found a couple of things that have helped me..... and may or may not help you.

1. Balance ball. I sit on it, and lay on it. Especially when my L5 S1 is acting up. It seems to open up the vertebrae enough to relieve some pressure. (the fitness trainer at the gym agreed it was the best thing)

I take a lot of ibuprophen (advil)

I Ice my back a lot (Ice reduces inflammation and will make some swelling go down, but might aggravate your arthritis)

I have pain and nerve problems meaning that sometimes my leg goes numb if the nerve is impinged. The swelling is what causes the nerve to get "pinched" so using anti inflammatory nsaids, and using Ice work well for me.

You also need to strengthen the core (abdominal muscles in the front) which will help you support your back.... at least this is what the sadistic personal trainer told me.

PM me if you want to know a few more tricks that might work.

OK I have a NordicTrack Revitalize™ 2.0 Inversion System. I am up to about 8 mins at a time (now that I know I will be doing it more)My pain is really bad sometimes I can't get out of bed without crying and getting down the stairs is worse. But I don't just stay in bed because I have a 4 year old and he should not have to sit around because of me.

Thank you for the link to the Back Pain Relief Guides I will study them tomorrow as I hang upside down lol. Thank you for all the advice I will put it to use I really don't want to get any shots if I can relieve this naturally.

Google "nicotine kills pain", and you will find several articles/theories that nicotine actually offers pain relief and muscle relaxation instead of making it worse. I'm not a big fan of nicotine myself, since it is the big monster I've been chained to for the last 20 years. I just looked it up because I thought I'd heard that before. I'd seriously look into quitting pg first and foremost. You can quit the nic too. But if you are an addict like the rest of us, the vg might make life easier for you. I'm sure your body would appreciate quitting everything more, I just know how hard that is.....

This is very enlightening. I was injured a while ago and that is when my back problem started. It has been getting worse lately. I have a desk job and it is hard to sit correctly all day. I keep reminding myself when I remember. I would rather not have surgery, so that would have to be a last resort. I have a balance ball. I just need to find out exactly what is wrong with me before I start exercising. I am going to try lo nic vg next. I do know that I am very sensitive to chemicals, so I'm not surprised that either nic or pg is affecting me.

You Should Be Fine Using The Balance Ball Even For Sitting On During The Day! Yes It Works Just Sitting On It! Cuz You Have To Stabilize Yourself! So Get On The Ball To Start! :D

Whatdoes fish oil do? What kind of massage would you recommend?

Fish Oil Is Good For General Health But Also Reduces Swelling Naturally, But You Should Take It A Few Times A Day (ie with meals or alone), Buy The Burb Free Type (I Really Suggest That). Search Google For Fish Oil And All The Health Benefits. :)

Any Type Of Massage That You Like Is Fine, Knead Any Knots Out & Increase Circulation Of Blood. ;)

Never had a desk job, but if I did, I'd have a heating pad glued to the back of my chair. My back hates ice, but if I sleep with a heating pad in my pants (lol low back), I usually wake up soaked with all the fluid that was putting the pressure on. It usually relaxes so much I can pop it back in myself. If that doesn't work after a few days, a couple trips to the chiropractor will fix me right up. Hmmmm, speaking of which, I haven't had to go there since I quit smoking 5 months ago... (knock wood). :)
