Now that I have a wood I have to learn to make coils all over again. I've been making dual micro coils almost since I learned how to make coils but they ran around .6-.7 ohms but Rob suggests 1ohm to be safe and I can't seem to get it there, I seem to be stuck at 1.6ohms and that with 32 gauge wire wrapped 6 times on an eyeglass screw driver!! UGH!! Anyone?

You need 29 gauge wire. you could double over the 32ga and twist the two wires together this will cut the ohms in about half and let you get a few more wraps in to hit 1 ohm.

I would not be afraid to run a .8 ohm coil on the mod I really dont see you having a problem with this . I make 1 ohm coils with 28 gauge all the time of course there not micro coils I never got into the micro coils

I've gone down to .76 but prefer higher so I'm running .97 now. The weakest link is the on/off switch, which I never use any way, and if it failed it's easy to bypass with a drop solder. Also remember the woods have a lower voltage drop than a Grand or Mini so the same ohm coil will hit harder, meaning a little higher ohm coil in a wood will hit the same as lower ohm on a Grand.

Heck yeah it hits harder! I tend to run 1 ohm coils on all of my REO's. Was actually considering going up a bit on my 18650 Woodvil it hit so hard! LOL

You an me both buddy ..... regular old 4 wraps and done ..... takes 20 seconds and I don't need any other tools or jig.

I've done a bunch of micro coils but the only advantage I notice is pulling out the wick and re-wicking ......
Now that i've switched to ReadyXwick I can use the wick much longer than the coil will ever last so that doesn't matter to me.

I do 4 plain old wraps of 30g over the 3mm wick and its 1.1 ohms every time.

just curious ...whats on the woods that make them hit harder, are these mech? i've nvr looked into the woods so know zilch about them :)

Nope, they have wires. That is actually what makes them hit harder. Nothing wrong with good old copper wires ....

They power the whole world so I'm sure they can put out enough for what ever build I make :D

They are technically not mechanical since they contain switches and wires in the electronic path, but they are not regulated like a Provari is. They have a lower voltage drop than the current metal Reos. Lower Voltage drop means less of the battery's energy is wasted trying to get to the coil, so the coil sees a higher voltage.

I have not tested everything but since they appear to use the same springs I'm guessing the larger contact patch on the positive battery post is the main difference. Copper wire soldered to the positive path might also be more efficient than the firing pin in the grand. Copper wire is used for the negative path instead of the aluminium body, but the mass of the body should make up that difference.

This will change when the supplier Rob orders from comes through with the parts for the Grands.

I just tried a "Rob coil" on one of my RM2s, 2mm silica doubled with 30g Kanthal. This seems to work better for me than the micro coils I have been using. I may have gotten too caught up in making pretty coils. I'll be comparing and deciding what seems better for me.

I can assure you ugly coils work great . I never fell into the hype and it is hype perfect coils micro coils bah . A piece of wick and wire and my hands that is all that is needed .You could do a blind test and not no the difference . My problem with small coils is you have to constantly juice your atomizer

So you all are saying I can just throw a couple wraps of wire around a piece of string and I'm good to go? All the wasted time of making my coils on a Itty bitty screwdriver then trying to thread my cotton through could of been avoided all this time? Ohh the agony
