I remember posting in a thread a while back about needing to get a new battery charger in case something happened to the one I was using, cause if it did, I was going to be a sad girl not being able to vape my reos. I ordered the extra charger and put it away. ONE week later I pulled my current charger out to charge my batteries and noticed a place on the cord where the wires were peeping through. Although I knew better than to use it, I had a daft moment and plugged it in anyway. Large sparks and the cord blew apart from the plug in that connects to the charger. YIKES! YIKES! YIKES! So yeah, don't try that home kiddos. If you see wires toss it. And I KNEW better than to do it in the first place, but thought "just this one time it'll be ok." Wrong. But I had my brand new backup waiting for me.:) And I immediately ordered another which is currently residing in my vape storage box.

Never hurts to have backups. I had one of these: AD-103 Multi-volt Charger

I used it as my sole battery charger for a year and it never failed. Its small so its good for traveling too and it can to multiple voltages. Its cheap...$5.00 It is slow though but it was fast enough do charge a battery by the time I needed one charged. I think it makes a good backup charger without spending much money.

I bought a wf-139 a while back.

Thank you for posting this. Our chargers are what keeps our REO's with fresh batteries. They are used at least a time or two a day. However they are easy to take for granted. Yes, your charger might last you for years. A back-up might sit in a box. But there are times when that extra charger comes in handy also. My back-up comes to work, so it is used every week. At home I have 2 Pilas, a Trustfire, and a single battery charger. I want to make sure I can always charge my batteries! Which makes me think. I should carry a back-up when I go to work also. Since I am away from home for more than one day.

Yikes, yikes, yikes! Lesson is, anything with frayed or visible wires should never be plugged in.

My old trustfire TR-001 is still doing well after about 2 years. The wall plug in units, as linked above, are $0.99 on ebay, but beware, they are not for everyday. One of mine died. It came with a kit. They really are meant just for traveling/occasional use. First it started with the light blinking very rapidly, then a prong would no longer go all the way up, as if the spring was bad. Time for the trashcan on that one. Couple of batts did not charge properly, fried a Maxi RS switch. Tossed bats, charger and switch.

One Pila in use and a brand spanking new one in a box on my shelf :)

Though I did take it out and test both channels work properly.

Even if something were to go terribly wrong I have about 6 days worth of batteries all charged and ready to go so I could get a new one in time.

Glad no one was hurt with the frayed cord incident. Depending on how much good cord was before the fray you could have cut it and added a new plug for about a buck.

I thought for a minute about just replacing the cord(if I could have found one) but I was worried that the charger itself might have been damaged. I decided that it was a cheap enough price to pay to just chuck it and get another for some peace of mind.

BRAVO house mouse! Backup your favorite PV, charger, batteries -- I went with just one charger for a long time and just last month bought a backup. Like you, I noticed that the wires right behind plug that goes into the charger unit were suddenly showing?! Better safe than sorry
