Not as long as they keep him monitored, which they are...AND he takes it easy in the mean time.
That sounds like the exact procedure they are planning to do on my step-dad. His is definitely an emergency situation though, and he's still having to wait for what seems like forever to actually have the operation. They went in and opened his valve up some temporarily in order to buy him some time. He's 85 years old and too weakened to be able to handle the open heart surgery. They originally told him there wasn't anything they could do about it and that he only had a few months left. Then they mentioned this new procedure which they say would give him an extra 7 years.They said the type of procedure he's having for valve replacement is experimental and his isn't an emergency so they want to have him wait for a few more to be done first...I know it sounds scarey, but its not really...the way they want to do his , is to fish it up with a cath inside a stent , instead of cutting his chest open.
