My grandmother taught me how to make Verenyky (perogies) as a kid, and she also gave me my first beer. She rocked.

:)

My mother's family was Polish. The perogies are the best tasting food in the whole world. I've never made them - too hard and too time consuming, but the family members who do make them, make them with potatoes and Farmer's Cheese.

The thing is, its the same work making 2 dozen and 25 dozen, so if you are going to make them, take a whole day and get er done. A few of us get together, blast some metal, drink some beers, cut, spoon, fold and freeze. It's a lot of fun.

:)
In my former life as a chef youd be amazed at how many Americans have never heard of a Perogie :) I love em (apparently spell check hasnt hear of them either :p )

My grandmother used to be able to pinch the little rascals together in a couple of seconds before dropping them into the boiling water. I, other the other hand, painstakingly pinched the edges together, only to have them fall apart when they hit the water. A true culinary skill for sure.
