I believe they are. What with how many posts do we see in new member forum every day saying "Hey, guys can you help me with my 0.2 Ohm build? What's a multimeter...."

It sure isn't pretty but I don't think that everybody playing with this stuff truly appreciates the fact that it can be very dangerous if you try to be a cowboy...

Just my $0.02

We go through this all the time as well on the motorcycle forums. Are the dealers responsible for selling a 1000cc superbike to a new rider? Or is it the buyer's responsibility to not start out with too much bike for him/her?

I know when I bought my first bike I wanted a Kawi ex500. The first dealer tried to talk me into a 600cc I-4 supersport. I was the one who said, no, I'm not ready.

What, if anything, should I say to the owner/employees of a local store when they push completely new vapers(my buddy) to buy mech mods and set up .3 ohm micro coils without making sure they are equipped with an ohm reader and the knowledge of ohm's law and battery safety?

i know this is the second post kinda raggin on B&Ms I've put up today. I'm not trying to sound like a negative nancy here. I would love to see more storefront vape stores, and I enjoy hanging out in them quite a bit. I'm just a little shocked because I saw at least three people in the store today who had no idea what they were doing, yet were given sub ohm setups.

I feel like this kind of stuff can only end badly for the consumer (burns/injuries), the store(lawsuits), and the vaping community as a whole(more strict regulations)

Once again I'm really trying to avoid looking down on B&Ms. Realistically I'm only trying to help. I'm just not sure what to say to the owner without coming off as holier than thou.

I have been in Some B&M where they Refuse to Sell coils below 1.2 Ohms. And Only Sell High Amp Batteries with Relatively Knowledgeable Sale Staff.

I have also been Shops when they will wined a .3 ohm Coil, Stack a Pair of No-Name 18350's in a Mod and send a New Vaper on their Way.

No Exactly Sure what can be Done about it?

The difference here is that the e-cigarette industry is literally in it's infancy, chances are the shop owner doesn't even know the safety issues involved.

Mr. Anderson, it is worth it to talk to him. Even if he's not receptive at first it'll put the idea in his head and maybe he'll think about it later.

And fwiw, I'm certain that at least one of those pics isn't real (did you notice that one of them has Chinese writing all over it? They don't have the most honest media imo...)

Yeah, you are absolutely right, that is a little sketchy. I am prone to knee-jerk reactions on this stuff. Apologies. I mean, that's not sayin' that somebody couldn't build a trash coil for a nautilus but, yeah, I see what you are saying.

Even if those pics are not real this stuff does happen from time to time. Mech mods should be understood completely before someone starts using them. I've been vaping now for almost a year and a half and mechs still worry me a bit, but understand them and how they work.

Doesn't matter how old you are, I would call him out and tell him you will create a yelp campaign that will expose his horrible safety practice of introducing devices that are quite dangerous to beginner vapers. I would back you up on this fully, so count me in as a reviewer that would be in your camp.

This kind of thing seems to happen with knockoff ego style batteries when being charged. Well that is mostly what I've heard of. Having a device explode in my face and set my place on fire is a freaking nightmare! I'm fond of my face lol.

I refuse to accept that it takes government anything. Model rockets don't require any regulation. If you've used or set some of those up, they can be dangerous too.

With you there. Difference is that model rockets the dangers are obvious to even the dimmer bulbs. Fire, propellant, etc...

But we're so used to having lithium batteries in anything portable that the potential for trouble doesn't quite make it into the mind.

'Oh yeah, same battery like in my cell or tablet. So what...'

So folks might overlook the fact that there is a world between running a cellphone and sub-ohming.

I agree with the general premise of both statements. One thing I would add is that for model rockets (and similar niche hobbies), they're generally going to be purchased by enthusiasts who are interested in how they work, while e-cigs are getting increasingly popular with the average joe who just want to quit smoking, but are not necessarily interested in becoming a vaping enthusiast. They're going to walk into a B&M and depend upon the advice of the store employees; as such, I think it's important that we as a community both out the irresponsible vendors and promote the good vendors.

I am strongly in favor of self-regulation as opposed to government regulation, and I think we're as important as the vendors in that regard - that's what's happening now with generally good results (the occasional irresponsible vendor notwithstanding).

I think this is a Very Good Point.

Many People Aren't Interested in spending hours reading Threads/Educating themselves about Amps, Volts, Ohms and what Battery does what.

They just want to Quit Smoking.

My Galaxy Nexus has a flat pack 1850mah lithium Ion battery in it. The secret is that it's not stacked in series with another battery that could be at a mismatched charge level.

Unless I've missed something along the way, every spew and blowup that made the news was a result of incorrect battery types and/or stacked cells. I've only seen two or three reported in the media in 4+ years on ECF.

I agree that vape shops need to educate customers and steer them toward the starter VV kits. It's pretty common for the guy in the sales position to be exhaling long streams of thick vaper from a dripper mod. You know that new vapers want what he's vaping.

Still, anyone buying a mech needs the talk and some printed warning information before the sale. When they walk out with a mech, they should have heard the whys and wherefores about safe use and danger in detail.
