So i bought 4 sony 18650 tc5s off amazon They've all been working great except for one of them which has started to turn spotty and chicken pok like. It seems like the battery acid is melting out amd turning the green case right spotty. Either way, i know the battery def isn't safe to use but im wondering wherewis the best placp to dispose of the battery?

For some unknown reason, Sony batteries seem to do this sometimes. There has been no evidence of it being unsafe though. If your uncomfortable using it, then feel free to dispose of it. As long as the wrap isn't damaged, there is also no reason to rewrap either, unless you want to.

I don’t know what really causes those spots but there is no acid in our lithium-ion batteries.

I've never owned an 18650 with spots in the wrap. First guess would be something in the wrap manufacture process or some sort of silicone or other lube that is used in the automated process of installing and shrinking the wrap at the factory. Maybe some tech sprayed WD40 on the tube or rod that installs the wrap. :)

Yeah this has come up before, mainly with Sonys I think. It's perfectly fine to remove the wrap, wipe down the battery and etc., and rewrap it. You'll see there are no spots under it and if I had to guess, (no one really has come up with a definitive explanation as far as I know) it may well be the wrap being at issue, not the battery, because it doesn't seem to happen much anywhere else. I think you should be fine if you rewrap it and I'm betting the problem won't reoccur.

    Good luck,

Don't even have to rewrap it. Just use as is.

No one has yet to solve the dark spot mystery on Sony batteries. There is widespread agreement that the spots don't affect the battery at all.

    Strange looking VTC5A

Sony batteries use a semi-transparant wrap. Some have hypothesized that tiny prinpricks in the wrap may allow skin oils, e-liquid, or other moisture to become trapped under the wrap to cause the spots.
