I did decide to do a quick little experiment tonight. I put 1 little drop of nic juice in a 10ml batch... yep its the nicotine. After about a minute or so of vaping it I started to feel like the other night.
Looks like I will need to try some different nicotine or stick with the commercial stuff.

At first, I was rather adamant about my following steps in making my juices. I actually wrote them down somewhere back then. Others have said about everything possible. I think walking before mindless running is good. I still kinda organize tools, liquids, bottles and consult recipe notes. It would be a pita to have waited a month for steeping only to realize I had apparently done something wrong.

Good day fellow vapors.

I recently had the opportunity to dive into DIY. Needless to say, it has not gone so well.

Issue number 1.

No matter what Nic strength I make my juice it makes my high. Even 3mg strength in 30 mils and I am on the floor with heart palpitations having a conniption. (slight exaggeration) Not sure if it is this particular Nic solution or what the deal is. I am using Wizard labs 100mg.
Never had this reaction to store bought juice even the stronger variety. I am guess I am having a reaction to this particular brand? No other juice I have ever ever vaped has made me feel so drowsy and dizzy. It literally makes me feel drunk but not in a nice way. I looked up the symptoms for a nicotine overdose and my symptoms are exact. My poor wife, witnessing the whole thing, laid next to me on the floor to ensure me that I wasn't going to die. :(

Issue number 2.
I am using TFA flavorings. I mixed my juice as such and shaked it up and let it steep over night. Wednesday I woke up excited to try my first creation. It was delicious. The issue being that even this morning I can still smell the flavorings in my nose. My clothes and even my shoes smell like TFA cheesecake graham cracker crust. Never had this issue with "store" bought juice and even juice that was mixed the same day.
Before you get the idea that I am using too much flavoring know that I am using other peoples recipes. I have never gone over 8% with a single flavor.

Its quite clear that I am doing something wrong or I am using flavorings or nic that I am reacting to. This Wizard lab's nic is pure evil. [removed]

Feeling incredibly discouraged. I didn't even feel like bringing my mod to work this morning. I took one look at it and felt immediately ill. Maybe this is the next anti-smoking thing lol.

Thanks for reading.

RJ
could you possibly assemble the bottles for all the ingredients you used and take a picture and upload it here so we are certain what you are working with and then list each ingredient and the amount of each you combined and how you measured that. May be you added too much nic and too much flavoring.

No need to drop DIY.
Call WL and let them know. I'm certain that they will have a replacement bottle of nic wining its way to you the same day.
Sometime vendors make mistakes, I test one bottle from every batch of nic I get to ensure that I'm getting what I ordered. No more, no less. Keeps me happy knowing the nic is exact.

I order large quantities and shake the heck out of a bottle before I break it down to smaller bottles for use.
I shake again before mixing. I do a lot of things that aren't necessary, but it costs nothing and takes only a few seconds, so, why not?

The interesting part about nicotine solutions in PG and VG is that it's supposed to be miscible in those mixes. That means the solution doesn't separate once mixed ... supposedly.

I shake the heck out of mine before each DIY session. Yesterday, I mixed up six 50ml batches with flavor and one 120ml bottle of unflavored 70pg/30vg. I vape the unflavored here and there and use it to cut over-flavored juices. It's just too easy to add some unflavored to a high flavor mix and get it right.

I set those bottles on the kitchen window sill and shake once or twice a day while they are steeping. I haven't noticed any stratification at any time. You see the layering right after adding the ingredients, but never after shaking.

I still vote for a hot bottle of nic in this circumstance. The vendor should have a process to check that out.

Glad to hear your health is OK and that you've narrowed it down.

Was this unflavored? If you haven't tried your base mixed unflavored, that might be a good and final test. Might also try a VG/PG only mix and if OK, would think that leaves only one culprit.

I tried straight VG, Straight PG and a 0 nic mix. I didnt have any issues. The moment I added even the smallest amount of that nic it made me feel pretty terrible and not in a fun way.

I contacted Wizard lab. Waiting to hear back.

Anyone have a recommendation for a nic vendor that they have used and are pleased with the results. Especially interested if you are sensitive like me.
Nude Nicotine nic is excellent, though also expensive. I've been using Nic Select bought from Nicotine River since I started DIY and it's always worked well for me. Keep in mind I'm at 3 mg nic, your mileage may vary if you want to go higher.

I'm sorry to hear your problems with WL! It definitely sounds like you have isolated your reaction to that though. I must say I am surprised to hear it as I have used their nic for over a year and never had an issue. I do know they mix their nic solution fresh-to-order so I can see where there could be a mistake made without it affecting a multitude. I agree with everyone else in that you should follow up with them. I have always found their customer service to be good in the past.

I am currently using Heartland Vapes, and RTS Vapes nic (both bought in 100mg/mL 1liter bottles) with no ill effects. (I switched from WL due to price; about 9 months ago.)

Nude Nicotine is always well spoken of, and if money is no object, Carolina Xtract is the Rolls Royce of nics. Both are out of my price range so my word on the subject is pure hearsay and should be taken as such.

Please post back and let us know the outcome of your conversation with WL. Maybe you did get a hot bottle or one that didn't get thoroughly mixed before shipping. Things like that can happen, but like I said in a previous post, you'd think that mixing would occur during handling and the long bumpy ride from the vendor to your home.

Hmm that might be the culprit. I did not shake the nic concentrate at all and I used a dropper and only took a little bit off the top; it is VG based

I will examine the nic juice and see if it falls in the "bad" criteria when I get home. I thought I mentioned it but maybe I didnt. Its Wizard labs 100mg 100% pg.

Whaa....?

Typo. It was 100 percent PG.

Wizard labs responded by giving me store credit which I used to purchase some bottles and flavors.
I was a little less then pleased by their customer service as they told me they would call me back after I spoke with whomever and I never got a response. It wasnt until I sent them an email did they respond with the Store credit which is ok I guess. Anyone Want my bottle of nic juice? :)
I will give nic select a try and see how that goes.

Hope that will work for you, @RottenJeeves ! Keep us posted.

Given your sensitivity, you might consider smaller bottles from different sources in your search for a nic base that will work for you. I've only used Heartland Vapes and I think their smallest bottles are 120 mls, but they do have regular and "Ultra Premium." What little I have used both, not sure I see a big difference, but you might.

Good luck!

I got my NicSelect 100% VG 100mg nic last night. I didnt have time to test and see how I am going to react. I will probably start by adding 1-2 drops to a 0 nic juice and see how I do. Fingers crossed.

I think you said that you vaped vendor juices for a while without problems before starting DIY. If it's a nic allergy you'd think that it would have surfaced before now as you ordered from various vendors who source their nic from different vendors.

As others said, I'd order some 24mg/ml nic base in small quantities and try them just to see what happens. Start low and be careful.

If this continues it might be worth your time to have an allergist check you out. It's expensive to do an allergy test, but insurance may pick up the cost if your doctor prescribes it. At any rate, symptoms like you've had deserve medical evaluation.
