can someone put together a list of the clones and where to get them? cuz until someone decides to pay my bills i don't have hundreds to shell out on "high end" product that cost a fraction of the price to make, so who made the genesis style atomizer? everyone else is a knock off...

Raidy invented the mouse trap. Everything else is varying ways to attempt to produce the same effect. Some finely machined and expensive, and some mass produced in a sweat shop. Some perform better than others, and the price tag on it doesn't always accurately indicate the level of quality.

Competition drives quality up and prices down. There will always be cheap quality products produced and as long as the world and especially America would rather save money than pay more for quality it will always be that way. Americans and Europeans present innovative products to the world, China puts them in the average consumers hands. Some pride themselves on quality and ethics, some on quality for the opportunity to gouge and take advantage, some could care less about quality or ethics and would rather get $1 from everyone than $100 from a few.

The market will always correct itself on the quality items, and there with always be a place for cheap worthless products because many want something for nothing, or can't afford something nice so settle for inferior quality.

If the USA could produce all of the components coming from China and do it at a cheaper price, we would be ripping off designs like no tomorrow. It would be a blood bath. Even if ours were not quite as good but almost. I'm sure we would all raise hell about what we're doing to the Chinese guy that invented it.

@flintlock62: what you described is correct, those are fakes, but that's another thing. Those guys are sort of cheating, they try to trick people into believing that they're buying the real thing for a lower price, but that was not what I was talking about. By the way, I once bought one of those and I s..t you not, it didn't make it through the whole first day of use before the electronics gave up.

For instance, Smoktech doesn't claim the RSST to be the real AC9, and it doesn't even look (exactly) the same, so you know you're buying something else.

Vivi Nova's are another example. Same name, same looks, but the quality is not the same. When someone wants to copy something, they should at least have the decency to change the name. Is it a Vivi Nova, or a Vision Vivi Nova?

Is copying a bad thing? Not always, I had a couple of design techniques copied (mechanical) when I was active in that field. Was I upset? No, I was flattered.

Should the inventor of the remote control for your TV be made by only the person who invented it, and everyone else be barred? After all, it's the same principle.

If the original designer can't be bothered to go through the process of getting his product trademarked and copyrighted, there's no reason to get upset and threaten to boycott those who copy the design. Who knows. The copy may be better quality than the original.

Unless one knows the entire story behind the copy (as others have suggested, there may very well be some agreements in place for the copy to be made), threatening to ban or boycott is just plain silly.

I believe you mean obtaining a patent, which can be costly for a small company. If there is no patent, it's free for all. If there is a patent, and it's copied, then the owner of that patent has to have the funds to haul it into court.

i will never spend more than 50 bux on a rba. people want to charge 150+ and when they are out of stock kids go on classifieds and sell for 200. op may have money to blow on these expensive pieces of metal but i don't. i would much rather order a mass produced knock off that works just as well. .... i don't even buy mods anymore, i build all mine out of red oak from home depot.

Owning the original is a status symbol. "I have a $150 ZAP." Not everyone can justify that expense on one single item. I would like to a ZAP but it is not in my budget right now. All my rba's are clones and work great. My cobra clone is one of my favorites. Is it the same quality as a real Cobra no. But it is about $130 cheaper too. I have no problem buying the real item when I have the money. But if I can buy one that will function really well for $30 I will buy that.

AOKP running on the Gnex.

A lot of online anything, such as having tapatalk customized to specifically say what flavor rom you have on phone when you post, is about status or defining one's self online. People who make a point about never buying anything over a certain dollar amount are doing the same thing actually. It's just a funny thing when that's what everyone does, define themselves, with sig/avs.

I have no problem with the clones, I just don't think owning an original is only a status symbol. For one thing, getting parts is nice. You can go buy new caps, rings, screws and tanks for your ZAP/ZAU/ZAG/Zen hybrid. Likewise with most higher end mechs that can be purchased via vendor. There is also usually a bit more consistency in the product.

That said, I kind of want an RSST, not because it's an AC9 clone but because I like the way they insulated the wick hole without having the wick touching any plastic.
