My Mother overdosed on Salem cigarettes in the early 60's..so her Dr. told her to switch to a non-menthol brand!
You would have thought he would tell her to quit.
The FDA knows they can't just ban cigarettes..but they have to be seen to be doing something. So it's chip chip chip away.
THis is the same tactic they are trying to do with us.
I read an article/advertisement in TV Guide 30+ years ago, outlining a plan to outlaw cigarettes. It stated that an outright ban that early would create too much of a public outcry, and that the only way to accomplish this would be to make smoking socially unacceptable. Therefore, it must be done in small increments, first with the "you mind very much if they smoke" campaign, then banning indoor smoking, next going after outdoors, and so on. Little by little, I've watched every detail happen. The advertisement was a call for smokers to exercise their rights before it was too late.
I also watched smokers capitulate at every turn, and even apologize for their filthy habits. No one believed it would go as far as it has. I lived in Virginia at the time, and all of the smokers I tried to alert said there was too much money behind
tobacco for it to go too far. I don't believe for a minute that the FDA won't attempt to ban cigarettes. Every other step has been accomplished. It's just a matter of time, maybe even years. This menthol thing is just another step. I wish I had saved that article.
They're attempting to nip
vaping in the bud. It's a minor annoyance in a much larger campaign.
EDIT: I know I sound like a conspiracy nut, but I swear it is true. Once I read something, it stays with me. This article has haunted me every time another ban comes down...
