Hello everyone,

For the last 2 and a half years, we have had a 'Campaign for vaping in Pubs' running in the UK.

We believe that promoting ecigs to smokers in bars and pubs is a good way of getting smokers to switch to ecigs and help re-create the 'good old days' of community in local watering holes.

Here in the UK, we have had major problems in getting the message across and garnering support from pubs, breweries and the rest of the licensed trade. They seem to need 'evidence' that allowing vaping would in some way benefit them, before even entertaining the idea of 'vaping in Pubs'.

The old argument of it 'looks like smoking and will encourage smokers to light up' keeps getting thrown in our face.

We have identified over 500 pubs that are quite happy to allow this legal alternative to smoking in pubs, but we need to encourage the big players to get behind us - but they need 'figures' before even considering the idea.

If you have any anecdotal evidence of pubs or bars that have benefited from allowing or even selling ecigs and having an increase in foot-fall/profits or even a better sense of community, please get in touch via a response on this thread or by pm/email.

We need your help to get ecigs accepted by the companies that can make a difference and potentially save thousands of lives and improve the community aspect of our society.

Can you make a difference? Have you some evidence that big companies will take notice of? Do you just know a landlord/licensee who has seen a difference since promoting ecigs?

Please get in touch.

I would recommend checking out the CASAA website. The following is a link to their Electronic Cigarette section;
Learn About Electronic Cigarettes

and this next one is about Tobacco Harm Reduction (which relates to e-cigs)
Tobacco Harm Reduction

I hope the information on there helps. Best of luck to you all.

Figures MY ..., that is just a COP-OUT from their end of things!

To me that is a Catch 22 Situation, well not really but still, Since THERE ARE NO STUDIES what will THIS Industry want from the Vaping Community?

Good thing in that States we just Vape up when and where we want to, if you want too. And that includes pubs and bars - if we are asked to stop or go outside, that is what we do.

To me, it seems there is some larger player somewhere in the midst calling the shots. And I'm afraid they are related to big tobacco somehow. I'm all for conspiracies and crap like that!

I've found that in and around city centres (Manchester comes to mind) they ask vapours to go outside simply to avoid the trouble that would inevitably come in those busy city pubs if another patron were to confuse vaping for smoking, or even light up themselves and get hell for it.

Local pubs, on the other hand, where everyone knows everyone are mostly very tolerant of the practice and have no issues whatsoever with someone vaping inside.

I think that the bars that don't allow it are more likely to be concerned with keeping the peace than with any perceived risk associated with vaping itself.

I love the flash mob idea...a hundred or more folks show up at the local pub, ask if they can vape while they drain a pint and if they're told no, watch the proprietor's face crash as they all say "right" and then leave.

Absolute. Genius.

Why try to give them facts and figures, when you can show them exactly how much business they could be losing. Another variation (that may work better), have less people do it at once, but spread out over a week. So instead of 100 in one night, 15-20 a night for a few nights in a row. They may discount one night as a fluke.

We tried the 'flash mob' idea last year in our little English way. We organised what we called VIP (Vaping in Pubs) Nights and attempted to get as many vapers in a pub for the night as we could - we struggled to find people who could be bothered to do it.

Over the 5 or so different nights, spread around the country, on average about 8 'vapers' turned up at each one, after weeks of promotion on the vaping forums and locally around the pubs in question.

GreenEyes' idea would work better to convince the pubs that there is money to be made out of allowing ecigs but we cannot get the people to do it.

Unfortunately it seems that society has become less interested in face-to-face contact and real life socialising. This type of discussion over the internet or via a mobile phone has replaced the good old chat over a pint in a pub :(

I'm afraid that people won't act until they have to re-act these days. Instead of trying to be proactive, they're happy to wait until they need to get re-active, and oft-times, that's too late.

Cheers for trying, though. Like many things, maybe it just needs to be repeated and repeated and repeated. Eventually, someone will tell their mate, turn out and have a good time and they'll tell their mate(s) about the next time. Don't give up!
