Just found this forum, and want to say hi! I am searching for info, as all newbies do. I quit real cigs 11 days ago with a cigalike. It is OK so far, but battery life is driving me nuts. I have spent a LOT of time at home charging! I really want to stay with cigalikes since I like the way they look and feel.

I am using Pure and Mark10 systems, at full power nicotine. Pure is mail order only and that is also driving me nuts since they messed up my order and are taking forever to send the correct replacement cartridges. I may go to a vape store tomorrow and get a starter vape to use at home, if the batteries will last longer.

A million questions.... and lack of patience with it due to quitting cigs!! But I WILL NOT light up a cig. Nope.:nah:

Welcome to the board and congrats on getting off the stinkies. If you really like the form factor of a cigalike, short battery life is your future. There are none with anything resembling long time charges. There are a number of small mods with much better batteries if you want to look at them. If not, the best I can suggest is buy several of them so you can swap them out when the battery dies and charge them all at night.

I've never found a cigalike at a true vape store...maybe a gas station.

Way back in my cigalike days I used Volts from SmokelessImage, G6 from Halo, and Erolls. I had some longer ones that were 320 mAh batteries (2-3 hours with cartridges) but that's about tops for cigalikes. If you must have small, I might suggest an ego size which would get you much more battery life.

Thanks. So if I go to a Vape shop and ask for an EGo size, what should I look out for? Don't want to be taken advantage of :) And do those EGos have pre-filled cartridges?

I already got taken on some juice, I think. A smoke shop guy sold me some Dragon juice ($10 for a big bottle) but it is VG and is all clumpy already. I wanted something to refill the "non-refillable" carts I have (since YouTube said I could do that for a time or two). What a mess!

My daughter and I used cigalikes with cartos for almost 2 years when we first started vaping. We had already quit cigarettes, cold turkey, about 6 years before we started vaping, but it got harder and harder to resist the cravings, so we started vaping and - holy cow - no more cravings.

Anyway, we soon went from prefilled cartos to refilling them ourselves. You will probably want a higher pg eliquid - we used anything from 65 pg to 100 pg when we used the cartos. We ordered eliquid online from VaporBomb and Mt. Baker Vapor - both have reasonable prices, very good customization options re nicotine and pg/vg, reasonable shipping charges, good customer service, and good turnaround time on orders. We were using 808 cartos and batteries, and refilling was a snap. Just remove the top piece of the carto - on ours it was either white or semi-clear silicone - add your eliquid, a few drops at a time (I rotated the carto every few drops just to ensure good coverage). When it looks full, shake it down like a thermometer. Put the cap back on, and you are good to go. Just remember, when a carto is dead, it is dead. Eventually, we just stopped ordering prefilled cartos - we got tired of the occasional dud cartos - and got blanks. They worked just as well if not better than the prefilled cartos, and really expanded our flavor and nicotine level options.

We also got a few extra batteries and a couple of extra chargers each. I used to have 3 batteries going at the same time - one in use, and two on chargers.

We have since moved up to Kanger Evod setups. Easy to use, and even the 650 mah batteries that we use last much longer than the cigalike batteries. Still relatively small and discrete. Think around the size of a Sharpie. They are less expensive, for us, to maintain. The coils are relatively inexpensive, and can be cleaned, rewicked, and/or recoiled, depending on how handy you are. I usually manage to get at least 2 or 3 extra uses out of coils just by cleaning them. The starter kits for the Evods come with plastic tanks. Some eliquids, such as cinnamon, citrus, etc. will melt or severely damage plastic tanks, so a glass tank is advisable. We have also been expanding our list of eliquid suppliers, since the Evods can handle a little bit higher vg. The highest we have tried so far is 70 vg, and it wicks just fine for us.

Good luck to you. Remember, you have plenty of options, and plenty of good people here on ECF who are more than willing and able to help with any questions or problems.

Hi Liz, and welcome to ECF!
Great place to be, very helpful members here (I'm a newbie as well).

I feel your pain.
I went through the same whole process myself as well.

What worked for me the best at the beginning is the EGO-T starter kit (after giving up on those Cigalikes).
I would recommend you to get one with with highest mAh possible, so you don't have to charge it that often (1100/1300 mAh) AND with a rebuildable Clearomizer (the tank on the top):
CE5 (with wicks) or iClear 16.
Those are the ones gave me a tighter draw, closest to cigarettes.

Innokin-iClear16.jpg

They tend to confuse CE4 / CE4+ / CE5 so just make sure you are getting one what is rebuildable.

No, they do not come with the juice, you have to buy it in any Vape shope in your neigberhood.
If you like the way it feels, just order some coil and you can replace it and keep vaping.

You can buy a starter kit at a gas station (those usually doesn't have rebuildable clearomizer, CE4) or get a better one on e-bay.
I just found some good starter kit for you on e-bay (I'm not a seller just wanted to give you an example):
T-Series iClear-16 650/900/1100/1300 mAh Dual Vaporizer Starter Kit
CE5 eG0 e Go Blister Starter Kit Charger Battery USA SELLER & SHIPPING

Here is some video I found really helpful. Check out his other videos too, good stuff to understand e-cigs.

E-liquid:
Start with a 40VG/60PG or 50/50 mix. Higher PG will give you a stronger throat hit.
Some people can not tolerate PG (including me), search for PG intolerance on this forum.
I moved to 70VG/30PG which is smoother, less throat hit but higher VG will give you more vape. I really liked this ratio but I still couldn't tolerate PG.
No I'm making my own juices and vaping max VG/no PG.
A long slow inhale with the right amount of nicotine made it work for me.

Hope it helped and good luck to you!
I'm never going back! :)

Thanks so much for the info everyone. I feel better about going to a vape shop today and stepping it up a bit. Loving this forum!!:thumb:
Great!

You need to step it up as Mark 10 are not the way forward. (Tobacco company)

This is what somebody wrote

It's pretty simple, the Mark Ten is inferior to almost every other product on the marketplace.

However, the same person goes on to recommend Vaporfi and V2, so it's clear to understand what this person wants... commission!

The e-cig business is a wild west of money-grabbing big businesses and dishonest reviews.

Best to trust in the forums, your local shop (usually) and people who don't just want to make $1 ripping off fellow ex-smokers. :)

If your cartridges are 510 threaded then you're in luck; then you could get an 18650 battery mod like a mech with a 5 watt kick in it and vape away with 10 times the stamina in battery life.

But, chances are your cartridge is 808 and you won't find the adapter (I think it's called 901? I never got one) and you'll end up moving up to a higher power vape requiring higher power batteries anyway and you'll be going down the rabbit hole like the rest of us

I just got back from shopping at a vape store. Guy was pretty helpful. I got two 650 batteries, glass tank (smallish Kangertech), coils, and a charger. Also two juices. I think I broke it already though! Came home to refill, and I think I unscrewed it wrong (at bottom of tank vs the top) and the remaining juice came out all over everything! Tried to fit it back together but the tank doesn't sit on the coil holder part very well. I filled it up a bit anyway and now it gurgles. Some smoke but no flavor. I am making no sense probably. I need to go to YouTube and identify my parts before I start asking questions. Just venting for now. I am VERY frustrated right now. Sooo close to lighting an analog!!

Just go on YouTube type in your tank name and type and just search on "how ti fill it" or "first use".
You will find plenty of videos on how to use it. It will clear out a lot of things.
Be patient with your yourself, you are in the learning process. It take a little time and some mistakes to figure thing out.

Sooo close to lighting an analog!!
Hope you didn't. But if you did, that's ok too. You are on the right path anyways!

Blu's original idea was cigalikes but the pack also had a battery which could charge them a few times. That kind of shows the problem. Of course the pack itself is larger than what you're using now.

NJoy now has out some prefilled cartridges in the eGo-EVOD style. I presume they fit normal batteries. I wouldn't recommend them long term, but it might be helpful short term, and as backup until your collection grows a bit.

I like the EVOD style, although the glass ones are in the later EVOD 2, dual coil series which I don't like as much. Many of my tanks are generics from Goodejuice for $2 each. That's a good way to try a few flavors.

Unscrewing the wrong part -- you got that lesson out of the way! Unfortunately you may have cross threaded in your frustration, unless a gasket it messed up. It could gurgle because it got flooded and needs to be blown out, but more likely there's an air leak letting in air to the tank which lets out too much juice.

If you are still not sure about things after checking out some YouTube videos, take your setup back to the shop, explain the situation, and see if they will go over things with you, and let you do any filling/disassembling/reassembling in front of them a time or two, just to build up your confidence and make sure you are doing things correctly.

If you wind up smoking a cigarette or two while you are getting things together, it's not the end of the world. You are on the right track to quit.

Yes, try to identify the parts you have via You Tube, and watch the demos on how the parts fit together, how you add e-liquid, and troubleshoot any problems.

"Gurgling" might mean that you didn't put the parts together correctly, or have "flooded" the coil by mistake. You also may be drawing too forcefully when you vape; a long slow draw works best. Drawing too forcefully can force too much e-liquid into the coil and resulting in flooding.

There is a learning curve involved while you learn to vape. You can gain a lot of information from a vape shop you trust, and/or watching You Tube videos. There's also plenty of people here on ECF who went through what you are experiencing, so don't feel embarassed to ask for help.

These blog articles which I wrote for beginners may be of some help for you:
