Three days ago I drilled out a big hole and rebuilt my IGO-L, been vaping 90% VG with the other 10% being my usual pre-mixed juice and now I've fallen in love with the clouds that come from mods and rda's. I still haven't built a successful coil on my own yet, I've been using fasttech pre-wrapped coils. I have 26g, 32g, and .1x.8 mm kanthal and 3mm silica and 3mm ekowool so I see myself going into the sub ohm world pretty soon. I was wondering which flat top 18650 battery I should be using in my k100. I know the dangers, I deal with DC electronics 40 hours a week at my regular job so I know how important it is to be responsible with right batteries that are built to handle what I intend to do with them.

Then after I get the right batteries, at what static voltage should they be swapped? I have one digital multimeter at work and one at home, with my current 1.0-1.3 ohm builds I usually check them 3 or 4 times before I swap out at 3.7 v.

Edit: Right now I'm using AW 18650 2000 mah's but these aren't meant to dish out as much current as the 1600 mah's so I was wondering if I should get some of these or is there a better battery out there for sub ohm?

The 2000 mAH are rated for 10A, the 1600 mAH are 15C or 15 x 1.6AH = 24A. Current = Volts/Resistance

You can get the voltage under load across the coil pretty easily. Due to drop in the battery, mod, and atty, especially at these higher current levels, it won't be as high as unloaded battery voltage.

The BIG question is how accurately can you measure coil resistance in the 0.2 - 1.0Ω range. Consumer-grade ohmmeters and multimeters can easily be ± 0.1Ω or more. Personally, I don't go below 0.5Ω indicated and that's with a 1/16" micro coil of 8 wraps of 26 AWG Nichrome 60 from Temco. Micro coils are pretty easy to wrap if you torch the wire to glowing first. That also burns off the machining oil.

Going with the 1600 mAH battery gives you more margin for error, but you can still sub-ohm the 2000 within rating down to about 0.5-0.6Ω, depending on voltage drop. Your call. I own both and use the 1600 for the 0.5Ω.

I like to not go below 3.5V unloaded before pulling for charge, but you'll probably detect the vape getting weaker around that point or even higher and will get to where you don't need a meter to know when to recharge.

I don't go below .5 ohm, mainly because I run an evolv kick 2, and .5 is low as she goes. I use the aw imr 18650's 2000mha, with no problem, I generally vape at 15 watts with the kick 2 maxed out, but even when I un kick it and vape at 35 watts, the 2000 mha perform well. Usually don't do that often, cause the nick hit is pretty intense at that level. But, next battery replacement will probably get the higher amp limits. Use the aw's mainly because my back up pv is a Provari, that way can use all my bats in both mods. .5 ohm build and above you should be ok.

does phil busardo have a video on sub ohms and batteries? can't seem to find it...

anyhoo, the batteries i use for sub-ohm are the aw 1600's and the mnke's. both have high continuous discharge ratings (24 amps for the aw's, 20 for the mnke's), and more importantly to me, both have been used extensively in vaping and are widely considered to be some of the best, safest batteries for this purpose.

He just did it yesterday look on Youtube or it should be on his site by now. I think the biggest problem is how to tell fake AWs and MNKE now that everyone and their mother says they have them. Buy from a good reliable vendor and not from someone who sells them for $4 with free shipping. Be safe.

OP, you said flat top batteries. If I get you, you know you could go with the AW 1600s; but you want flat buttontops? The Sony 30amps could be good (never tried them), the MNKEs are pretty good. I've been using these Samsung INR 18650 20-R 22A batteries. They perform about as good as the AW1600s, but are flat, and 2000mAh.

Hey! check this out!

"Note: AW does not sells batteries in mainland China or on Alibaba.com, i.e. all batteries from these areas sold as AW are fakes."

Just got the Sony US18650VTC3 1600 mAh a few days ago so far so good.

same here... 1 to 3 dollar difference in price = therefore i use the sony 30 amp High Drain Batteries for sub-ohm vaping

I use the sony 30A batteries. Do I use 30A? No that would be way too hot of a vape for me. It does give me a little more protection against a short and the discharge on these batteries is great on a mech.

k100 works well with both flat and button top batteries...

me being a late comer in vaping decided to go for the sony 30 amp high drain batteries since diff. in price range from 1 to 3 dollars (available at local vape shop)

This is one of the battery vendors I trust 100%. He sells only genuine AW and MNKE batteries at a fair price and offers great customer service. RTD Vapor AW Batteries
