Is there a down side to using a non-IMR 18350 1500mah battery as apposed to an IMR 1200mah??

Very few non hybrid cells have the amperage outputs we need, so the negative is you may not be able to get the power you need for your device, IMO IMR is becoming a buzzword representing any of the hybrid chemistries we use now.

In your example a few 100 mah is irrelevant as almost no battery actually holds the exact rating on the label. So better to be safe then sorry

Good question!

The highest 18350 IMR battery I have ever seen is 800 mAh.

18350 batteries

1. AW IMR 18350 800mah 12A (new)
2. Purple Efest IMR 18350 700mAh 10.5A
3. Efest IMR 18350 800mah 6.4A
4. AW IMR 18350 700mah 6A

I have 1200mah 18350 batteries. They are only used in my low amp draw eVics.
I have 800mah IMR 18350's for my shorty Mechanical Mods.

I found 1200mah IMR 18350 on Amazon. Hopefully they are for real.

Demonfire doesn't make batteries, they rewrap other manufacturers batteries.

We've seen a lot of batteries by other rewrappers with inflated amp ratings. Since there are no manufacturers putting out 1200 mAh IMR cells, I can only assume that DemonFire claim of 1200 mAh is "wildly inflated".

I'm using the new 18350 AWs from RTD. They're supposed to be 10 amp batteries, although I have never seen an independent test. They're working just fine, and I think they're 800mAh.

Think I'd have to pass on the Demonfire batteries. 18350 with 1200 mah and 10.5 amps, Really?????

IF and I do mean IF - they are actually 10.5a batteries then they are actually about 700mah. Still for most 18350 use, acceptable.
They are definitely Re-Wraps

Efest has a habit of erroneously overstating their battery specs.

What batteries you need depends on what you're going to use them for / in.

Efest does not have a good reputation regarding their ratings. The only one of theirs I have tested so far is the Efest Purple 40A 2100mAh. And that turned out to be a 20A battery.

Great information Bad! Thanks! These may not be as advertised but they manage to last over 2 days in my PT3 running at 10w in my ZMAX V-5.
