So far I have a total of 5 automatic batteries (standards) and one manual battery (xl). One of those 5 batteries is really flaky (it was already replaced) and that and one other battery have some charging problems, they will only charge on the wall chargers (of which I have two) and not at all on the 3 (now) usb chargers I have. In addition, while it's somewhat versatile and it works and there's lots of the equipment already out there, the hodgepodge of adapters for things like vehicle charging and the like can be daunting in cramped cars.

I was looking at the battery the other day and thinking through it and I don't see a reason why a micro-usb style charging port couldn't be introduced to the battery design. It would still use the same charging current that exists presently, so no need to reinvent the wheel, and the port could be placed virtually anywhere on the housing. This would allow for easy charging connection and would also be interchangeable with some pretty common charging scenarios like most cell phones. The best part is that since the connector on the top of the battery has to remain in tact for the cartos to fit if this port were added the battery could still be charged via the legacy chargers that are available.

Just some food for thought since Leaford is across the pond anyway.

Believe it or not, that's been my desire from the very first e-cig I had. Especially after the Janty stick came out with exactly that in a different form factor. I already talked to our factory rep and the factory engineer about that, and it's on the agenda. XL batteries with a micro USB connector in the tip, so the same battery can serve as a battery and a passthrough.

This is actually an excellent illustration of the value of having an experienced e-cig user involved in design. The engineer had never thought of it, but after I suggested it he thought it was a great idea. :D :thumb:

I am trying to follow this..I am gadget challenged..Are you talking about those tiny little usb plugs like on the newer kodak camera's? Not the wider usb plugs like on the passthrus. If you are that's just brillient! but I would suggest adding a cover..like a slide open thing for the port. Our batts take quite a bit of abuse and I would hate to see debris causing a short or something. I would even forgo the LED to place the port.

Exactly. The little tiny USB connector, half the size of the mini connector on the Janty Stick. And a cover, whether sliding or a rubber stopper, is a good idea, too. I will keep that in mind.

While on batteries, can I offer up a suggestion for a "ruggedized" battery? I've yet to kill one, but I know I will! Between chainsaws, skidsteers, welders, climbing trees, digging sewer lines, well I think you get the idea, I'm VERY hard on things! I killed a Motorola Tundra in six hours after buying it! Something that could take a fall to the floor a few times Maybe? A rubber coating, I don't know. I know waterproof isn't going to happen, but something durable is worth paying for with my lifestyle!
