Begginer Mech and RDA Set Up

So, for my new years resolution I would like to get into mech mods and rebuilds. Right now I use an Innokin I-taste SVD with a Kanger PT3 that I got for Christmas. I feel like I have a pretty good grounding with mechs and rebuilds; I ask around alot at every local vape shop, the most common recommendation is probably a Chi-you clone with a kayfun. But I am really wanting to do this nanodragon build that RIP Trippers posted a ways back. Does anyone have any suggestions on a somewhat beginner mech setup and any general rules of thumb for rebuilding like gauge and how many wraps equal what resistance. Thanks guys i know Im asking allot in this post but you guys never seem to disappoint. Have a happy new year!!!:2cool:

H Cigar Nemesis clone (or a dozen other easier to find mechs) and an Igo-W. Cheap, beautiful, and a real performer. Kidney Puncher will even drill the air holes on Igo for you, which is 100% necessary in my opinion.

The thing about RDAs is even the $100+ devices really only offer 3 advantages over the good cheap ones like the igos - those 3 being airflow, +/- post design, and contact material.

I do have to admit though, I prefer my VV mods to my mech for my drippers by a long shot. Microcoils are the greatest <3

There is no beginner mech...especially when you are planning on building your own coils to pair it off with. Why don't you just try your build with your SVD? The SVD will read the resistance for you and has safety features that will shut the mod off if you get a short.

The only thing a mechanical mod will do that your SVD won't is fire on an atomizer with a resistance below 1.2 ohms, which is not something you should be trying for a while anyway (if at all).

Yeah, I see your point up until yesterday I was naively convinced rebuilds can only be used on mech mods. I reread my original post I guess I was just eager about trying to step up my vape game next year, so i guess overall I'm just looking for a kick ... RDA that will be fun to vape, rebuild, and learn before I further improve my vaping knowledge.

Eh, cheap China made ones are moving in that direction as well. Both RBAs (actually already) and RDAs.

Also you can use super low resistance micro coils to pair with mechs as well. Im running a 0.3 ohm 14 wrap of 28 kanthal on my (admittedly modded) REO Grand. Just a thought you can explore.

Idk why anyone would ever recommend the Kayfun to a beginner... Not that its super advanced, but it can be much more fiddly than say a plain old dripper. Imagine building your first coils, which takes like 15 minutes each because well they are you first attempt. Now time to test the vape: fill the kayfun tank, put the coil assembly in, and vape. Say the vape is weak. Now what can you deduce about the problem? Is it the coil? The wick? Flooding? Air control? Now you have to do it again: unscrew the tank just filled with juice, wash off the bottom cap, start all over...

As opposed to that, with a dripper, you just need to focus on the coil then the wick. If something goes wrong, just take it out and do it again. The point is, a dripper is much less commitment with each build and thus much easier to learn and experiment with; it also has fewer variables to control so you can learn each aspect of rebuilding faster.

I recommend an IGO-W for atty.

Now for mech. Heres the thing: mechs are mechs. There are no different levels of mechs. Kind of like there are no different levels of manual cars. Sure, some look nicer, have more feature, are more expensive, drive better than others, but if you dont know how to drive, there aint a car to save your life. So, i recommend learning about mechs first: what they are, how they work, notes and cautions etc. then you can pick any mechs you want based on aesthetics and reviews and such.

Good luck

Explain yourself.

I started with RBAs right before I joined ecf. I've had the thought to get mechanicals, but I actually prefer high resistance coils. I might get a hcigar nemesis, but I'm getting everything I want in variable batteries.

The way that the positive and negative posts in the Rda are designed. For example the normal 3 posts of an igo w or the big middle post with two holes and two outside negative posts on the helios. Essentially post design is what determines how you're going to attach a coil
